Re: Very small chick for 18 days old?
Aww.... so sorry. I know that would be very difficult to do. But I agree with the others..... it may be something that is eventually going to happen anyway. You are doing a great job and it isn't anything you have done wrong I am sure... could it be from inbreeding. Is there any way the parents are related?

I'd give him the chance at a life and leave the rest up to God. He's trying to survive and does not seem to be in pain, right? Just keep doing what you're doing and see if he makes it. You'll know in another week I'd guess.

He seems happy loves to beg for food. I told my husband and he said to give him a chance.

If it were me, I would continue to feed and nurture him as long as he has the will to survive. He may be a "runt" or a dwarf as things like this do happen in the animal kingdom. In the wild , he probably wouldn't have survived - but he is not in the wild, he's in your care. I'm going through the same thing right now with a baby leopard gecko (lizard) that won't eat on his own. Bob

Keep up the good work, as long as he has the will to live and is in your care, I would keep on feeding him.

Yeah, this week I need to pick up some more formula. He's never rejected a feeding he even begs with a full crop. He's getting around pretty well now and starting to get pin feathers on his sides.

If he/she is happy and eating, give him/her the best shot possible. There appears to be no suffering involved, so why not? I grow really attached to my handfed babies, and the idea of putting one down makes me so sad. Keep doing your best and we are cheering you on.
Bob, my hubby and I have had leopard geckos for the last 11 years. Juno has a bit of an eating issue due to what we believe is a slight sight issue. We got in the habit of feeding him by hand when he was just a little guy, and he still 10 years later, looks up for his crickets. They can be crawling on his body, but he will still look up instead of down. He figures it out eventually. Lots of hits and misses though. I am sure your baby will catch on soon!

The little baby passed away this morning.
He wouldn't eat, which I knew was strange because he's never turned away from food.

So sorry to hear this
I think you tried everything you could for him. At least I'm sure he felt loved & well cared for in his short little life.

Very sorry to hear as I too was pulling for the little guy. I had a cold, lifeless, baby picked out of the cage litter once make it, so I know that anything is possible. At least you tried. Bob
