This is so confusing... three males in such a short time period? That male does look sick... Hmm :?

Yes I too am confused. I sent her some details about what we have been talking about today in these posts regarding housing and the idea of the hen being aggressive and chasing them etc.

Anyway, I will gladly take the hen back if it comes to that :)

I agree with that. I wouldn't have given her the second bird either. There is something that she does, definitely.

yes, this whole thing has been very upsetting  both of the males were really great, lively birds who i was very proud of. my birds mean the world to me, so i would never have wanted them to be put in harm's way. i do pre-screen everyone that wants to buy from me and i have them read over articles on bird care on my website.

she is buying a new cage today, its apparently 4 times the size of the other one that she had them in. i have also offered to buy the female back, if she doesn't want her anymore, so maybe she will take me up on that.

thank you everyone for your advice, it is appreciated.

I would quarantine her and not put her with the rest of your birds so you can observe her. The cae was definately to small, out in the open with no place to hide and the cups and perches were not well positioned. To me if the hen or the birds ot startled they did not have much room to go and would run into things. If she gets a bigger cage it may stop what is happening.

Sorry about what's going on Amy, but I really don't know much about Zebras or their behavior. If it's only the newly introduced birds that are dying, I would probably rule out anything to due with cage placement or something within the environment of her house. Is it any way possible that the original "hen" you sold her is not a hen? Or are hens the more aggressive sex when it comes to Zebras? Bob

Bob, either sex in zebras can become aggressive.

thanks bob for your concern. its been hard to know what to do really. i spoke with her this morning and she has decided to keep the hen. the new cage is going to be a lot larger and she will keep the hen as a solitary bird. i have asked her to put the new cage in a corner, or against a wall so that the bird will not be startled (if this is what was happening). thanks again for the help everyone.

I put a sheet of plastic around the side and backs of my cages, so the birds have a sense of privacy, vs being exposed on all 4 sides. The plastic also catches their poop, which zebras tend to shoot/squirt out of the cage.

Her cage looks fairly small for two birds. I have always had to separate my cage birds (next to eachother, but one cage for each bird) to avoid aggression
