Re: Just great.
Thanks for that clarification, Tiffany. I've only used it diluted in water, it's good to know that there is an alternate method of using it.

Re: Just great.
Ditto - I don't want to have to catch a bird five days in a row LOL
If I'm doing topical I use SCATT.
If the birds are too young for SCATT I use Iverlux in the water

Re: Just great.
Thanks Tiffany. Ill try the in water treatment since babies are so young.
Do you think the medication will get to the babies though through the parents?
I just sprayed the cages and the nest/birds/babies/eggs.
I dont see any sign of mites today. Ive checked everywhere. Heres hoping...

Yes - when they regurgitate they're transferring food and water so the babies will get some of the medicated water as well.PrettyBird wrote: Do you think the medication will get to the babies though through the parents?
Make sure you're removing the water at lights out and mixing fresh first thing in the morning before lights come on.
In other words, if you haven't treated them yet today, don't - wait until tomorrow morning.
You need to make sure it's fresh first thing in the morning before they've had anything to drink.
Gouldians consume about 80% of their daily water intake first thing in the morning, so if you treat them now it will just be a bit of a waste.
Better to wait until tomorrow..

Re: Just great.
Have not looked up these mites in particular, but all insects have a life cycle. As in eggs to (usually) larva to adults to eggs to....
So while all adult mites may be gone, they may have laid eggs which will hatch out in (usually) a week or two or three.
So...after you believe that daily treatments are safe to stop, you will want to keep a close watch, and perhaps do a weekly treatment for maybe a month or so to make sure you don't have a recurrence.
not to ruin your day with this news, but better safe than sorry and having to start all over again in a couple weeks.
