oh, no!! i hope it doesnt get any worse. i'm not much use as a vet, but i can at least offer some moral support. hope everything turns out ok. i would say yes for treating with worms and coccidiosis at the same time ( at least for humans) as those are different antibiotics. you just want to give the correct dosage.

Rox
It has been my experience that bird hide their illness very well.
I have had many situations where an apparently healthy bird one day is dead the next morning.

I keep a small cage ready with an incandescent lamp to provide heat for any bird that appear to be sick or lethargic.
The heat lamp has rescued several birds, including one that I had just about written off. It just lay on its side gasping...several hours later and its on its feet, and now looks just fine.
Don't make it too hot. Watch the bird and you should get an idea if it is too hot, if it is panting or getting as far from the heat source as it can.

I'm sorry you've had a rough few days. Coccidiosis strikes hard and fast and is common in outdoor aviaries if areas are damp or wet. There is a seed grown somewhere in Africa that is supposed to help treat coccidiosis. I bought some here in the USA ind it was kinda pricey but I am saving it for when my birds go outside in a few weeks ( it's really hot and humid here). When I get home tonight, I'll look up the name of it as off hand I can't remember. Perhaps it's readily available where you are.

Thanks so much for all the support. You guys rock!

I've been researching Coccidiosis for the last while and see that it loves the wet and damp. While my aviary is totally rainproof, inside it is 3 quarters dry, the other quarter is planted either in the ground or in pots, along the front of the aviary. These all get watered regularly. We are also going into our winter and rainy season, which means damp all around outside the aviary too.

What would you suggest would be a suitable time frame to set up a routing for prevention of Coccidiosis? Every 3 months, as I currently do for worming?

@Perfex
Michelle, thanks so much for the info. I will see if I can find it my side. I'm always keen for a natural alternative if available :)

Hang in there Roxanne, hopefully you will find the root cause of the problem and can be resolved. It is very tough losing any birds but especially so with babies!!

I personally wouldn't treat two things at once but that is just my gut instinct rather than any sort of experience.

Sending you warm thoughts and strength!

Rox, generally we do not apply two medicines simultaneously. However, in case of emergency you should apply both (I also do the same). Try to find CocciCARE form Morning Bird for Coccidiosis. It is a good product.

Hi everyone,

Just a quick update. Firstly, Bandit made it through the night. He is still eating and drinking but very puffed up still :(

I phoned the specialist again first thing this morning, just to make sure. I have stopped the wormer and started the birds on a 3 day course for coccidiosis and bacterial infections, will then follow with a week of probiotics. Deworming routing can then start again afterwards.

The meds were in the birds by 9:30am this morning and I'm praying Bandit pulls through. So far, everyone else looks ok with no visual symptoms.

Thanks for all the well wishes!!!
