Thank you everyone for the thoughts, prayers and love.

A quick update.....

The Zebras are doing heaps better today, they spent some time outside in the fresh air yesterday and they have calmed down a lot. We have also moved them to a different spot in the house with more sun and less movement, yesterday there were people cleaning carpet and washing walls, it is a lot calmer today.

They are all eating and they all had a bath last night so I am feeling much better about them pulling through it with minimal harm!

Praise god!
Totally owned by a spoodle called Pepsi, 4 very cute zebra finches (2 fawn females, 1 ??? and 1 white male) and about 60 guppies! And loving every minute of it!

That's awful. So sorry!

My neighbor's were talking about building a fire pit, and I asked them not to because my house has filled with smoke in the past from former tenants burning things in the backyard. Actually, we get a lot of wildfires around here, and they fill the whole town with thick smoke. I hope I won't find the same thing. I guess they really are sensitive to air pollution.

Nanajennie I had 10 Gouldians

the zebbies are all very busy again now, you would never know anything happened, they are back putting their nests back and getting themselves sorted! They are such tough little birds.

I have had some discussions with my vet about the smoke and the consensus is that there must have been something other than wood burning, possibly the chemicals in the carpet or furniture that is what killed them. he said he has been involved with rescue after bushfires and finches can be singed and still be fine, he said it is either that or they had some pre-existing lung issues and that made them more susceptible.

I think you may be on to something there. In the wild there are brush fires every year and gouldians do fine.

I had not even thought of that. But when furniture and carpet burn, they do release toxic chemicals, so it certainly makes sense.
