I use the lights upside down directly on the cage top, the clear cover that goes over the bulb is removed. You can use an extension cord if needed. WalMart also sells the light fictures and full spectrum day light bulbs as do the home improvement stores.

I was able to get a floor lamp from Target like the one Bob has. No warnings & no chemical odor. I'll check out the cage top ones too. Thanks for the information.

This is similar to what I have in my bird room: http://www.amazon.com/Park-Madison-Ligh ... B00857R9PY

Mine was about $35 at Target, a few years back. Don't know if they still carry them. I like that I can aim the arms at the lower level breeding cages, or just in any direction I want. But they do impede traffic flow in the bird room, and I am in the process of switching to ceiling lights.

That lead warning sticker sounds like ones they put on lamps with decorative leaded glass shades. I wonder if someone messed up and put the sticker on the wrong lamp before boxing it. (But since there's no way to know, I agree, it was best to take it back.)

Hm, I never really paid attention whether there was a warning sign or not. I got mine from http://www.interior-deluxe.com/ and I guess it should be without chemical odor. I'll check not only the lamp, but for some opinions in the web. If anyone has already purchased such product from this particular online store, it would be great to share experience in case there is reason for concern. :)

If there is no warning on it or in the information and directions that come with it & there is no odor with the lights on or off, then it is probably ok. There also should not be any warning of the product containing lead.

I thought so, too. After thorough check, it looks like everything is ok, no chemical odor. Thank you for the comment, though.

wildbird, A couple years back I had a lamp like Bob's as well. Mine did the stinking thing and I returned it. It came from walmart, from the college dorm stuff they get in for back to school season. The difference was the portion around the bulb- it was a white plastic. The plastic was being heated up, along with the inner metal portion. I didn't bother to see if it had any warnings. I just made sure it had the right bulbs in it before using it. The lamp seriously just wasn't right. Return and refund for everyone's sake. There's got to be better options out there.
