I too am surprised it was a bacteria. I wouldn't think you'd be able to see them without a super high powered microscope. (Or am I thinking of viruses? Been a while since bio lab! LOL)

That's great you have a definitive answer. I never would have guessed E-Coli. That's some pretty nasty stuff. Well now you can get it under control and your birds will be back to optimal health again.

Thanks for posting that update! I had an e-coli outbreak one time, but it was in the method I was using for hand feeding. I was filling several syringes in the morning and refrigerating them till needed, then I warmed them. I lost three chicks in my effort to save myself time and convenience.
