You should see an improvement in 48 hours after treating with Scatt if it is air sac mites.

David thanks!

I started amoxitex today as he's still coughing/sneezing and twirling his tongue. I hope this works.

Thank you. I think that's exactly what may have happened, scatt killed off the mites but know he clearly has a respiratory issue. I started amoxitex today, did you have good results with this?

Thanks, I did see some improvement after 48 hours with SCATT but unfortunately it's now deteriorating so it probably isn't just ASM, though the symptoms are similar. Cough/clicking/sneeze and opening his beak trying to clear his throat.

I hope the amoxitex helps, luckily he's not at a point of sleeping on the bottom of a cage or not eating. He's still eating well, poop looks normal and he's hopping about so I hope this antibiotics will do the trick, I've never given this before.

Thank you. Today is day two of amoxitex, he's looking tired and less active, hopefully some improvement will be shown tomorrow, praying for a turnaround. He keeps opening his beak wide and stretching it :(

Olive25 -- indeed, I have had some very good results with using Amoxitex for respiratory ailments.

In fact, I usually do antibiotics simultaneously with ASM treatment now since the infection seems to happen so often.
I usually start the antibiotics 24 hours before the ASM treatment so it's in their system and working (and in cases where you see immediate improvement, you know it was probably never ASM, but an infection.)

It can take a few days to see real improvement, but as long as he's not getting worse, that's a good thing.

Does he have a heat lamp? Super important that he has one, as infections are very taxing. It will speed recovery.

Thank you so much go for the great tips, I will refresh the water and medication and will add a little honey.

I pray he pulls through this, it breaks my heart to hear him like this. I'm so relieved to hear you had success with this product. Were your birds in poor shape when you used it?

It's only day two for my little brownie and I'll hopefully see some improvement tomorrow.

I don't have a heat lamp (can't find one anywhere) but the room is warm and I drape an electric heated blanket over his cage at night to keep him extra warm.

Olive25,

If you don't have the heated lamp, whenever you have time or when you feel little chill in the room, (better before sleep time since temperature cooler that time) you can try to use some steam water in the restroom. What you do is you can turn the shower on with hot water and let it run til the steam get around the restroom, make sure close the restroom door to keep warm and steaming inside.

I did this to my sick finch before and she was some kind of infection but not so serious, so I caught it on time. Then she feels better after 2 days. Hope your bird the same, more likely got infection not ASM.

For the shower running method, you can do it one time a day or twice if have time. When the restroom have a lot of white mist or enough steam, then turn off the water and close the door keep the moist inside for about 20 minutes. You don't have to let the water run more them half hour without off, because that maybe too steaming and your bird need some sir to breathe in :)

Hope you can keep trying and don't give up, just need some patient as well in order for your bird to recover. I sure hope things works for u Olive25. Anytime you need help don't hesitate to let people know here and keep post forum, other members can give you more ideas.

Good luck!
David

Olive25 -- I've had some birds in very poor shape pull through, both with respiratory ailments and other issues.

Birds are unique in this way, as they seem to have the ability to recover when they're super unwell, whereas if a cat or dog was that unwell, it would typically mean pretty certain death.

You actually don't need an actual heat lamp.
I have an actual heat lamp in my bathroom, but I typically use a gooseneck desk lamp. I have a couple; I think they were $5 at Walmart. I just use with a 40-50 watt bulb (the highest wattage they can accommodate) and put that right up against the cage, shining right on a low perch. Works beautifully!

Just be sure you get an incandescent bulb, not florescent, as you need the bulb to get hot and florescent bulbs don't get sufficiently warm.

Olive25,

I forgot one more thing, but only give you suggestion since I can't guarantee for result, at least it works for my finch. Which is using ACV (Apple Cider vinegar) -- I'm using the Braggs brand which is organic one. Put a few drops (2-3 drops per 8-9oz water) to the drinking water, (Normally I only put 1-2 drops but since your bird is in more serious condition so extra drop doesn't hurt) that will help little for the infection too. Even you are using the Amoxitex at the same time for your bird is ok too. Hope this will help you some too beside the steaming method from last post.

For all my birds, I usually put 1 drop ACV to my birds' water even no sign of symptoms. But I only do this once or twice a month, not too much or often, because too much of one thing would be not a good thing, since by doing this 1-2 times a month is a way to prevent them have any yeast infection etc in the future, which I really glad they can't smell it or any color showing on water after put drops of ACV, but it looks like water and my birds all drink it no problem. :) just let you know these, hope it help your bird as well, you can put a drop or two for other birds at the same time if you have any other birds, just to prevent any infections, remember only 1-2 times a month enough.

Thanks, it's comforting to know that your birds were able to pull through. Great advice about the desk lamps!

My little brownie is on day 3 of amoxitex and I really hope this helps
