Oddly, yes she is now eating, and thankfully drinking the antibiotic water for a few hours now. She is still fluffed up, but not shivering. And she seems more alert for sure....shes not nodding off into sleep.

I cant figure out why she wont go under the heat lamp. About 4 branches at different levels underneath it, so she can pick just the right temperature. But she prefers the other side of the cage, eventhough the sun is no longer shining on that side of the house.

Its a 70watt black bulb, so its not too bright. Im going to change out the cage liner in a few and see if her poops improve over the day.

Ahhh, a day of POOP-WATCHING. :|

**Edit, I just checked on her and indeed she has diarrhea (lots of liquid in that poop), but now the green has changed to clear with the solid being light brown. Hopefully this means the antibiotic is working.
Im wondering if I should even give her boiled egg if the directions say no calcium.

Not sure about the egg, seeing as it's the shell that has the calcium.
Personally, I would go with one day of straight seed, no greens. With all of my pets, when I see diarrhea, I offer a bit of boiled rice (not sure how that would work with birds though (?) ).

Throw that idea at debbie and see what she thinks.

Yep I always go with brown rice for the dogs too when they get the runs.

She has very little solid in the poop (mostly liquid), so Im running up to get some japenese millet at the store to encourage her to eat even more.

But let me tell you, seeing that horrible green poop change miraculously to tan brown in just 5 hours is quite an amazing change.

Be back in a bit.

Check this article out Babs

Also, I would cook up a tiny bit of 'white' rice, and see if she would eat it.

I just got home and scanned Elana's link. It looks from the chart like excessive urine/diarrhea. Which points to bacterial. So the Triple C just might pull her out of this. Shes still fluffed up like a little ball and now under the heat.

Im going to watch her closely.

Until Next time tune into The Next Episode of "How the Poop Runs!" ;))

Hehheh (I couldn't help myself).

I treated her with Triple C antibiotics in her water. Her light green poop went to tan-brown and wet. She is eating, drinking. But as of this time she is slightly wobbly on the perch, but sleeping right under the heat lamp puffed (thank goodness). She was having balance issues flying from perch to perch just a hour before lights out.

On lights-out I gently caught her and examined her. She is not malnourished, no breast bones sticking out thankfully. Oddly her tail feathers are not oily or dirty. No signs of parasites.

I dont know if she will last the night or not. But she seems to know to now stay under the black heat lamp on a thick sturdy perch ( it has uvb & uva rays).

I hope she lasts the night, and many years to come.

All the best.

Im sitting in a chair and watching her sleeping under the 70 watt black light in the dark. [-o<

It sounds like you know more than I, but I wanted to add something just in case -

sometimes birds, including finches, will act like they are eating but not actually ingest anything. It is one of their frustrating ways to hide illness from us. Regardless, the green poop (depending on what it looks like) can sometimes be an indicator of anorexia (fasting - not eating). This could be a reason you are seeing only a bit of solids.

Are you familiar with what 'diarrhea' in birds looks like? Lots of liquid could simply mean a lot of water has been ingested. If you scroll down the provided link you will find a bunch of pictures with explanations. If nothing else it may help other members who are not aware of the difference between diarrhea and watery droppings that are otherwise normal.

Good luck with your bird.

You may be right, as I see alot of posts with a fluffed up bird where they seem to be just picking at the seed and indeed this is what she is doing.

@lovezebs Kelly Madcat

She made it throught the night. But shes quite a little mess right now.
I do remember the couple who sold Bebop saying to Bill one of her siblings did not make it through the molt, and they didnt want to stress this bird with the move, as they would be back and forth between two houses for 3 weeks. I'm wondering if this is genetic. Thought a lot about that last night. I tried to seller this morning and his phone is disconnected.
