I do NOT wanna see Bubbas ......um.......crack. OMG You know you just brought an image in my subconscious that I really didnt need in my next life! :))

The eggs are in the incubator (thank goodness) and they have exploded into life. [-o< But again, I will remain a cynic and not "count my chickens before they hatch" so to speak.

I completely missed you, luv. So Sorry. They came from a porch-style small aviary. You may be correct. I dont think they interrupted in the breeding process.

Shes a lovely hen, wish I knew what would make her happy.

Babs. I think you're doing great! You've really only had your birds a short time and alreay they feel comfortable enough to breed. They are young and they are still in the learning phase. Practice makes perfect! Gouldians I've learned are considerably more sensitive compared to society's. It's hard to stand back when a chick need's help and you do what what you can. You're losses are part of the learning curve for your birds. The great about have not having too many birds is that you always have room for more babies! :D

Both of you are right. I pulled the eggs on the 1st of this month and placed them in my emergency brooder.

So yes, they are indeed about 5-6 days into incubation. Not by the abandoning parents/breeding pair, but incubated by me.

I put them in the brooder 11/1. They are now in a proper incubator. But once again, Im not gonna keep my hopes up.

If I never mention it again, you know the deal.

What would make Brat happy, is trying again ♥

Regarding Bubba's ah...er....um.... rump

He would have to wear a feather skirt of course, woman !!! You don't want to give those poor chicks a complex as soon as they hatch now, do you???

Elana, she is already on round 2. Im at a loss.

I have covered half her cage in black cloth but if I even change the water on the other side of the nest she is doing " EHH EHH, EHHH"

She likes when I lay her millet and eggfood, she hates everything else being changed.

Been this way since day one....Ricco brought stalks of tommy hay to her like a gentleman after bowing and woo-ing.

She threw them out in a tantrum.........he tried again, she threw everything out. "EHH EHH EHH"

He kept going on til he just nailed her on the shelf in the quarantine cage cause quite frankly he was exhausted with her criticism.

I had so much tommy on my floor.

Ok. Can't wait to see. <3 I'll post my last clutch too. I could go for round two but ...I think I've had enough. I'll have to think about it. How many clutches will you attempt??

If she doesnt sit on this 2nd clutch, I think I am calling it a day....

I'll have to wait til next year and hope she grows up. I see handfeeding on the horizon and I work over 40 hours a week. Yes, I work from home (but you remember my society finch incident) I'm too tired to handfeed more that one clutch.

Make sure you tag me in your last clutch, I'd like to see those babies!

Good luck with #2 Clutch. Let's hope things go better this time around.

How old is she again?

Some females are a little.... how shall I put this in a diplomatically correct way.... Ape faeces crazy. I hope she doesn't turn out being one of those. I remember our Colt , had one who was a homicidal maniac. He ended up never being able to breed her (if I remember right).

She is supposed to be 1 year old. I really like her black head and yellow beak. The BB Ricco is RH (head looks beige)

I was hoping with her genetics the chance to get some YH babies. And Ricco just adores her. His dance and slow steady bow to her is beautiful.

But Brat, yes you're right about her. She is a big cranky pants. You can hear her fussing at him all the time (although they sleep right next to each other).

He's like "okay dear. Whatever you say dear" #-o

Well Happy Saturday Girlfriend.

OK....let me see if I can get any of this genetic mumbo jumbo right.

If Brat, is a BH/PB/GB....
and
Ricco, is a RH/PB/BB.....

Then boys should be : 50% RH/BH - P breast - Green split to Blue backs.
And girls, should be : same as boys (I think)

If Brat, is a BH/YH, then....

Boys should be:
25% R/B/Y head - P breast - Green split to Blue backs
25% R/B head - P breast - Green split to Blue backs

Girls should be:

25% R/Y head - P breast - Green split to Blue backs
25% R head - P breast - Green split to Blue backs

I think this is right with the help of the Gouldian Genetic Forcaster.

Good grief, but this so gosh darn confoooosing.
