Personally, I would phone the Vet's office and ask if the Vet has experience with finches? Or, if they know of anyone in your area who does (?)

It doesn't hurt to ask.

If she's not responding to your hand right infront of her....sigh...it's not ( in my opinion) a good sign. I wonder if she can see (?)

I wonder that as well. I called the vet and they dont know of a person with knowledge on finch. They have 2 people there who treat exotic pets but exotic is a very broad spectrum. they said they know little about finch but i could bring her in if i wanted too

I spoke to someone about accidents involving the bird hitting their head.... there is likely swelling from the impact. They said a good avian vet should have a med to possibly give her to help take the swelling down. Just keep a warm spot the bird can go to, a water tube or cup in the same place , the same for the food. Some recover and others do not recover fully.

Thank you sooo much cindy (and all of you) some days she seems worse than others, but i do believe this is the case for her. No signs of sickness. I will see what i can do about her condition. Hope she gets better. Now to find an avian vet.

Thanks everyone!

Just read about brain swelling. She has all the symptoms such as not perching. It says the vet can give her prednisone (or however its spelled) i just hope it wont be too late

I would try to get in touch with these people if I were you, and see who they can recommend in the area.

Good luck

Went to the vet just now. She seemed to know what she was doing. She gave the bird Metacam. And im to give this to her once a day for 4 days. She said she believes she hurt her neck and that it is inflamed. When she walks, she moves toward the left. So now im just hoping she gets better

Best of luck with your girl.

Metacam, if I remember right, is a pain killer and anti-inflammatory, so hopefully it will help.

Yup, you are correct! Hehe

I may be just hopeing to much, but before today she was very unresponsive when i would wave my hand in front of her face. Now she runs away when i put my hand up to just the cage. Hope this is a good sign. I will keep everyone posted on her results. Thanks again everyone! You all have been a great help with advice etc.

Sorry i have not gotten back to you all. Unfortunately there was no progress on the medication. They do not want to give her anything else due to the risk of killin her. She has worsened and is now with one eye always closed and has no use of her left leg. This makes it hard for her to eat or drink. I fear she will not last much longer

Oh jeez....
I'm so sorry to hear this. Poor poor baby.

Could she have had a stroke? Is she still on the meds?

I have no idea if she had a stroke. She was only on the meds for 4 days. During that time she was more active but still would not perch of fly. After the meds she slowly went down hill :(
