Ivermectin & Treatment for Air Sac Mites

my avian vet is the one that prescribed Ivermectin 1% (not to be used in water , she said it does not mix well in water and should only be used topically, it can also burn the throat...use s76 or iverlux if wanting to put it in the water, those are disigned to work mixed in water ) as a preventative and treatment for all kinds of mites. She told me to purchase it at the feed store and how to use it. It is what they are using to pically now.

I just received Ivermectin that is to be mixed in a Gallon of water and provided to the birds as drinking water. It is an ABBA product.

the topicals are all skin and blood absorbed and by passes the liver....orals all go through the liver,

Accurate? Once absorbed it enters the blood which circulates through the liver.
Perhaps oral doses have a metabolite that is unlike that absorbed directly. I'm guessing here.

I looked up that ABBA product, it is a shame that you have to mix up a whole gallon, using up the whole bottle at once, when you only have 2 birds. Perhaps you could use only part of the bottle, like 1/4, mixed in a quart instead. Be sure to take away all sources of water the night before, or they might not drink enough of it the next morning. When you offer it the next morning, they should be thirsty. Don't give them any wet food or veggies that day either, no bath, no way to avoid drinking the medicated water.

Can not see if ABBA has included Slippery Elm to the ingredients. Slippery Elm is suppose to help coat the throat. Morningbird makes Iverlux and it contains Slippery Elm.

The Ivermectin 1 % recommended to me is the injectable liquid form (ivomec)
