Calcium, is always a good thing to have handy when you have birds.

How are the kids doing by the way?

The lovebird with the prolapse seems to be doin better it seems like half of it already went in and the skin doesnt look dry and i see some new feathers growing in. He has an apoinment in the morning and i will ask the vet if it is possible to reinsert it and see wat she says. The other lovebird is also doing fine i think i might have been confused and maybe it was just the feathers that made it look like she had something abnormal and since the other lovebird lost alot of the feathers around the vent i had nothing to compare her belly too and freaked out But i will take her to the vet at aswell.

Thanks For Asking..

Also I have a question so 3 eggs that my finch layed hatched the babies are around 3 weeks old are there any veggies or fruits that you would recomend giving them?? Some seem to be learning how to eat seeds and millet but they still rely on the parents and the dad has been pulling out some of their feathers and seems like he has also been pulling out some of the feathers from the mom.

Good morning and hello again,

Glad to hear about the good news, that both birdies are doing much better :-BD .

Regarding the new babies, CONGRATULATIOS!

Regarding Dad and the plucking issue:

Are you sure it's Dad who is doing the plucking? I ask because sometimes it can be Mom, or both parents who pluck babies for nesting material.

How bad is the plucking? Are feathers being pulled right out, or just chewed off? Are the chicks bloody, crying, seem in distress?

*** I would keep a very close eye on the situation, and let me know how things are going.

Regarding the food:

At 3 weeks old I am assuming the babies are still be in the nest box.
What are the parents feeding now?

If they are feeding, egg, some veggies, and spray millet along with some of their regular diet, then all is well.

Good morning,i took them but she had a surgery and couldnt see them and left them there i hope everything is good ive had bad experiences with leaving a pet at the vet.

Thank you another pair also layed eggs around the same time and 4 hatched but i think i stressed them out and they stopped caring about them and i assume since they didnt sleep in the nest one night the babies died and they tossed them out of the nest in the morning.

Yes actually its both but the dad seems to do it more he sits next to them and either pulls feathers or picks at them i saw the mom picking
at one of them aswell but i think it was because she wanted them to move because they were on the same perch and she was at the end and couldnt get off as they were right next to her. She is also missing alot of feathers at the back of her neck. And im not sure about how bad it is because they are still missing alot of feathes and im not sure if its due to him plucking them or if its normal i will look at at them later and compare the babies to each other to see if they all look the same or if one is missing more i noticed this happening around two days ago. And the babies seem fine i saw the father today still feeding them and they dont seem to be bleeding or in pain.

And they are no longer in the nest they came out on sunday and i put them back in at night they came out in the morning and i cut a shoe box in half and replaced the nest with it and for the first two days one would go in at night and i would put the rest in but on wednesday they were all sleeping on a perch and i just left them there and that is how they have been sleeping they sleep on one end of a pech and the parents on the other but i will remove the shoebox i dont want more babies. I also cut the lid of a shoe box and plaaced it in a corner and its like their resting spot even the parents like it i wasnt planning on the babies leaving the nest this early i was going to buy a bigger nest. And the parents get vitasol in their water 3 times a week and a mix of seeds and zupreem pellets and i also give them millet. I havent given them veggies as i wasnt sure if the babies would know how to eat it and if it could be dangerous for them.

Most Lovebirds babies fledge between 6-8 weeks of age, so your guys at 3 weeks of age, popped out really early (for whatever the reason).

If they are not being plucked bloody, overlly stressed, crying, or in pain, I would leave them with the parents for now (your other option being to pull them and hand feed, but trust me, unless you are extremely dedicated, need very little sleep, and have the patience of Job, I wouldn't recommend it...been there, done that #-o ). The parents should feed them until they wean.

Regarding food to offer...
Parents will usually feed whatever foods they are used to eating themselves. With chicks being fed, I always offer hard boiled eggs, spray millet, and some veggies and greens, such as grated carrots, shaved broccoli, cucumber, some minced kale, spinach, romaine, etc.

The birds that layed eggs are actually zebra finches. And i do have patience and time but i dont think i would do it i have no experience this is actually only the second time in my 8 years of keeping birds that my birds eggs hatch the first were cockatiels and it was 4 years ago it was stressful and i have not given my cockatiels a nest since then. This is the reason why everything is very new to me and alot of things make me worry. I will wait and see if they keep feeding them and if they stop pulling out feathers. Thank you so much for helping me with this issue.

Once they get older do i have to separate themfrom their parents? Or can i keep them in a bigger cage that is longer, more interesting and without nests??

And thanks for the list of foods i have given them some of these foods and they seem to like them i will also add some that they havent tried. As for pellets what brand would you recomend?? I give my finches zupreem and was giving my bigger birds roudybush but then ran out and didnt find any at the store so i bought them zupreeme.

Oops sorry, I thought we were still talking about Lovebirds  my bad....

Regarding the diet, I don't feed pellets, so can't really give advice there.

All of my Finches and Canaries, are on a good quality Finch/ Canary seed mix, which I buy and mix together. They are offered greens and veggies on a regular basis, along with my home made egg food, home mixed bird grit mix, some fruit, and spray millet.

I know that there are people who offer only pellets with, or a mixture of pellets and seeds, which their birds do well on.

Regarding keeping Zebra babies with the parents in a large flight (without nests).
It can be done, if there is enough space available. Zebras being territorial can become cranky and aggressive if overcrowded, so that's something to keep in mind. Offering some artificial plants, swings, foraging boxes, etc. tends to help keep them busy and content.

No lol, and its ok.

The vet recomended harrisons for my lovebirds but i think it would be better to buy something i can get at the petstore i might go with roudybush i saw good reviews on it. I give them pellets because ive read that an all seed diet is not good that is wat i had been giving my cockatiels, lovebirds, parakeets and finches their entire life and i started giving the pellets only about 3 months ago. Ive read people say pellets are not nceessary and some dont have good ingredients so im still debating about it.

I think i will buy different types of seed mix and mix them just like you do i didnt know they needed grit is it mainly for smaller birds like finches or do all birds need it??

By the way your birds are beautiful. And i love the way you serve the fruits and veggies.

I bought a big cage its like 4 feet tall and the width is around 2 feet and length is around 3 feet i was planning on keeping all of my finches there and decorating there cage with branches and flowers and plants but i have a few finches that im not sure if they would do good in a cage that big. I have an albino finch that has no toes in one leg and only one toe on the other also a zebra finch that can only see through one eye and another finch that is barely learning how to fly eventough she is around 6 months old maybe older sometimes she falls on her back, but i would like to see all of my finches in a bigger cage playing and eating together.

Hi again,

Your flight cage sounds awesome. Here are a couple of examples of what some of mine look like...

1422584012279.jpg
20151121_143703-1.jpg
just for ideas.

Regarding handicapped birds...
Some can do well in a large flight with some modifications. Others do better in a smaller cage, like my little Max (one leg, one wing)

Your cages looks amazing. I wanted to do something similar. At the moment i have my two lovebirds and two parakeets in the big cage. About a third of the cage is for the lovebirds and i divided that in half, they have to be separated until the male lovebird is healed. And at the bottom i have my two parakeers which were mad and didnt eat for a few days because they didnt like the area were i placed the cage.

I think two of my disabled finches would do good i just wouldnt want the other male finches to bother them. The finch i worry about is the one that falls she doesnt seem to fall as much and flies better but i still line the inside of their cage in case she falls so its easier for her to turn around. But i struggle when i have to replace the newspaper because her cage mate flies all over the cage and sometimes lands next to her and makes her loose her balance.

I think i might divide the cage into three and add the finches with babies to the top, my disabled finches in the middle and my other two finches at the bottom. I usually pull out the tray of the cage were i have my finch without toes and my spice finch , under that cage i have my other disabled birds and they really like each other ive seen the finches at the top give the finches at the bottom nesting material and millet lol.

And yes i will post some finches once i get it set up maybe the next month i want the babies to get bigger.
