Mine as a staple/base diet get Zupreme pellets/seed and Higgins Proteen Snack Attack eggfood ground with ground pellets (some prefer this to boiled egg). They get boiled egg and veggies mostly Romaine (veggies are were mine are picky) They also get some herb salad. For a calcium supplement I use powdered oyster shell/shaved cuttlebone/shaved mineral block and a whole cuttlebone.
I'll go to the store and pick up the shells this weekend.

Re: Lobster shells?
I guess all I want to establish right now is that they will eat it and it wont harm them. They seem to like it and Ive noticed nothing unusual in their stools. So Im pretty comfortable with that now. This morning I put a spoonful in the treat dish in the other cage and those birds ate it as well. But those birds will eat anything I put in there.
Im going to continue offering it to both cages for now. Later this year when I go to pairing the birds up I'll continue with either one or two pairs only. I've been trading emails with Dr. Joe Kunkle at the Univ of Mass. He is the nation's foremost expert on Lobster shell. He's going to have one of his researchers email me a biochemical breakdown for the shells.
Im just not satisfied to buy a couple of birds, put them in a cage and have something pretty to look at. Thats just not me. I get obsessive with my hobbies and this doesnt look like its going to be any different. Im recovering from shoulder surgery and off work for the next few weeks so this is giving me a way to stay active during the empty hours of the day with the wife at work and the kids in school. A person can only watch so many hours of 40 year re-runs of Gunsmoke and Bonanza
