Re: Whats going on?
I have done the first week of S76 treatment for all my finches. It took 24 hrs and the 3 gouldians were active and singing again, my green singer lucy was the same. I still have 2 more weeks of treatment to go but I am hopeful.
The one Im worried the most about is the female RH gouldian. She was in my topic "gouldian molting" I gave her s76 treatment with them (still have two more wks on that) and as of today finished the 5 days of s76 to her neck. I picked her up and still hear a whistling sound when she breathes. Maybe it wil dissapear after treatment...or maybe theres something else.
What concerns me is that she is very dull in color, there is no sheen to her feathers, she patchy still, AND looking at her droppings I see that they are a light green color. the white is normal. when she poops theres a bit of liquid but that absorbs right away into the paper. I can feel her breastbone very easy, shes very thin. Shes still in a hospital cage.
Does she have some sort of kidney infection? Or is it something else going on?
I am getting some amoxitex, cocci, and a few other meds next week.
Can someone tell me what is going on with her? Has anyone experienced this?

Re: Worried!!!
It could be parasites. My last gould that I lost was very thin, had the dull coloring and started making clicking noises not long before he passed. Cindy figured it was parasites for my guy because they rob the bird of all the nutrients so they slowly starve to death. Unfortunately my guy was too far gone to be saved and I was very worried about the rest of my flock. I treated them all with a double dose of ronex 12% in 1 times the water ( 2:1 ) and also added a dose of amoxitex in with the ronex to treat the rest of my flock for 7 days and they are all doing great. You could try that.

Re: Worried!!!
Thanks Dayna, I think I will give that a try.
I didnt order the ronex with the order Im getting this week...looks like I will be placing another order
Yea shes so thin too. Every time I go to catch her, all I feel is bones. Shes so skinny. I see her eat, but noting seems to be absorbing fat wise. Her poop is that green color...did your gouldian have green poop as well?

They were very small and at the very end there was nothing at all. He became very dehydrated but his poop was normal colored. What color green is it?
This is a really good article on poop. It might help you out a bit.

Re: Worried!!!
Hi, just saw this...it is possible it is parasites, it causes the bird to go light very fast once they take hold.
Dayna mention Ronex 12%, Amoxitex also if you have not dewormed the flock I would do that as well with Wormaway.
there are a few distributors for Morning Bird Product in Alberta, see if the have the products so you don't have to order them in.

This is ladygouldians write up on coccidia

ladygouldians info on Baycox

Are her vents dirty?
Also if a bird has parasites, loosing weight and having difficulty breathing....the parasiteds get into the blood stream and rob the bird of oxygen. The sound is more like a huffing and puffing than a clicking.
I would do this, call ladygouldian.com and tell her what is going on, ask her what medications she recommends then see if you can get them from the distributors in your area. If you can not reach ladygouldian.com contact ladygouldianfinch.com. She needs to be treated asap, keep her warm with a heat lamp.

Re: Worried!!!
Kenny- no I havent treated for cocci, I will be getting the medication sometime this week.
Cindy-Her vent isnt dirty at all, she doesnt huff or puff, its a whistling sound I hear when I catch her....The clicking has stopped since I did the first round of s76 (have 2 more wks of this to go)
Her droppings (poop part) is a green color, like a lighter green color. The white is white, and sometimes around the droppings is some liquid. other times theres no liquid.
I want to take a picture of her to show the coloring of her, shes very dull.

Re: Worried!!!
Her dropping sound normal, the liquid is urine that they excrete along with the solids

Bear in mind that if she had ASMs that as they die off it can cause her to choe a little and force her to cough the dead mites up, possibly cause her to split up food also. A few members have made comments that when their birds have had ASM that the birds look dull but as they improve the birds returns to looking better. ASM is a parasite and will take the birds nurishment as well so that may cause her to eat more also.
Here is additional information on S76
http://www.ladygouldianfinch.com/product_s76.php
the entire article is helpful but here is the section on worms
"Wormer
S76 will kill Hair and Round worms, and has been effective in treating Acuaria spp. Spirurold worms in some species other than Gouldians. S76 is recommended for the control of Gizzard worms in Gouldians. S76 will not kill tape worms. Worm Away can be used in rotation with S76 if your bird has been diagnosed with tape worm. Recommended treatment schedule for birds housed outdoors or eating a diet containing live food is to treat in water one day each month"

Re: Worried!!!
OK I got a few more medications today.
I got Thrive, Vitalize, Amoxitex, Inverlux, Feather Fast, I also have S76 that I bought previously.
Now I have been doing the S76 treatment for all the finches (inlc. the gouldians) I Just finished the 2 day in a row for the 2nd week. I have one more week to go.
Ok now Im wondering what I should do to treat the female RH gouldian. I think she is very thin, so could be anorexic. I was reading that I could use Thrive 1st, then Vitalize. Should I do this first, then treat the gouldians with Amoxitex?
How long do I do the Thrive and Vitalize? What dosage do I do?
They are in powdered form, and they all say serve with soft foods or veggies etc. or make a past and drop into mouth...Isnt there an easy way? Can I just put it in the water?
Can these be treated now since I used S76 for 2 wks?
With the Amoxitex, what dosage? And should I wait after next wednesday when the S76 treatment is finished?
What about the feather fast?
Basically, needing to know the dosage, and what can be combined with what, and when.
* I couldnt afford the get the cocci, or ronivet...so those will have to wait!
Thanks so much!

lol yes of course I have. I always have millet on hand.
Shes still very thin.
I wanted to try the medications so wondered if anyone could help me with this.
http://www.redbirdproducts.com/Interaction%20Chart2.pdf
found this interaction chart.
now would like to know the dosage/days to use for the products I have.
Is it best to wait till after wednesday (final day of S76 treatment)to use ANY or these products?

Re: Worried!!!
How thin is she, when you pick her up can you feel the breastbone, has she gone light? What are her symptoms as of today?
When did you start the s76....I would not give the amoxitex to her at the same time
here is an article on s76 and amoxitex
http://www.ladygouldianfinch.com/features_scatt-s76.php
" Secondary Infections
Birds infected with the airsac mite should be placed in a hospital cage. Following the airsac treatment birds should be given Amoxitex (antibiotic) for two days to help with secondary lung infections"
I assume this is following the first treatment before the second treatment based on how this is written.
it might be best to consult ladygouldian.com to get specific directions on the use of the amoxitex after/during the treatment time for the s76.

Re: Worried!!!
If she's very thin or "going light" worm infestations can prevent the digestion and absorption of food. Did you wormed her when she was in quarantine? If not I would do a de-worming.
