Re: Lolita is sick. Please help!
Great news. I would still recommend that you try to locate some liquid human-grade calcium if possible. Good luck!

God is my redeemer and it is through Him I have found eternal happiness. I am grateful, I am blessed, and I am truly loved. I wish all this and more for all members of our finch forum family. May you all be blessed and highly favored.

I agree, as she may do this again in a day or two. Each episode weakens her, so you want to try to prevent any more episodes. Liquid calcium, either bird or human type, is an absolute must-have for anyone that owns a hen, even if not breeding.bugaboo5 wrote:Great news. Don't get excited yet, she has not passed the egg yet. i pulled her out to check on her butt, she has an egg bum(swollen butt) So at least the egg has gotten this far, before i didn't see anything there.
So as of yet, she still has not passed the egg.
I made a boiled egg.i have not seen her eat any seed so hopefully she will eat egg food.

Were you able to find any liquid calcium? If I could only do one thing for an eggbound hen, it would be the liquid calcium. Second the heat, and third the humidity, but that calcium can save lives.

I can't get to any stores
The next target is about 8 miles away. even on bike i don't have that much time!
what can i do for humidity? i heard that setting them in shallow warm(hot to the touch for humans but not burning) water may help release some of the pressure?

Thank you Tinysparrow, it's much appreciated.
I'm just glad that i can see the egg now, maybe she will lay it soon if it is passing through?
how in the world do their tiny organs not get squished with that big egg?

I've never tried the warm water bath, I don't like to stress a hen any more than necessary when she is eggbound. She is in a very precarious state anyway, and giving the liquid calcium is stressful, so I leave her alone.

Well, i want to do whatever i can until i can get ahold of some liquid calcium.
Some semi-good news is that i got my mother to see if Target has some liquid calcium because obviously..i can't drive...
If we can't find it at Target, we will order some online in case this happens again.

Well, from past threads i'm sure you know how ignorant and crazy my mother is.
She didn't go to target but instead went to Walmart even though a Target is closer.
Then she came home with a pineapple mineral block
I want to punch a wall!

Katie...were you not able to get the liquid calcium..you can call the Target pharmacy and ask them to put a bottle aside for someone to pick up for you.
