I'm so sorry to hear this. So often, unfortunately, we are not able to save them no matter how hard we try. You did everything you could have done for her, but it was not meant to be.

So sorry to hear Betsy didn't make it. I often have no idea what causes any of my birds to die, I just have to accept it. I have noticed though that often they will seem to rally, and then I find them the next morning on the floor. Can't explain it, but I have noticed it.

I am so sorry. I share your heartache. At least, Betsy had the comfort you gave her, so she was not in as much suffering as she would have experienced without your intervention. You did a great job and caring is the most important part when raising finches. Rest in Peace Betsy [-o<

Thanks so much. It was a really difficult day especially at work. It was worse than a blah day but I worked with kids all day and hat made me smile. My daughter was really sad too and I'm sure my 2 sons will also be heartbroken when they get home from camp on Saturday.

Caring for our little ones really affect us. You just want then t one better sometimes better means a better place away from us when their suffering is at an end. Their memories will be dear to us.

Thanks for all your support. It was tough to post and read even tonight. Tomorrow will be a good day.

grief reaction better...my other little lavender, clint, has been looking for betsy for the past 2 days... still wasnt sure if he was male though until he did the hop dance with fiber in his beak to lilo, my cordon blue...pretty funny...lilo seems to be thinking- 'you do know i'm different, but did you know i'm spoken for?' lol...

still debating whether to get clint a partner...my two boys came home today and were saddened by the news of betsy's passing... a couple of good big hugs and they were off. ah, the resilience of youth...

I'd get your male a mate. It is hard for them to be without "one of their own."

I'm so sorry she didn't make it! :-(

But I agree with Deborah, they don't like to be alone and a new buddy would be nice.

Thanks! I went to our weekend flea market where the local bird lady usually has lavenders and cordon blues- out of luck. She did not have any and I didn't call to ask her for it. Next chance would be if I drive up to Atlanta for the Bird Mart there- and get a couple female gouldians too.

Clint ( the widower) bonds well with the cordon blues and orange cheek waxbills. I hope his can last a little longer until I can get him a partner. Do you think it can wait or should I ordering by mail but its pricey for just 1 or 2 birds...

If he gets along with the other finches, he'll be alright for a few months.

Ginene- thanks. that was the hardest so far. our attachment and caring makes us prone to hurt more and to love more.

thanks for the advise. i can now wait for either the atlanta show (next weekend) but thats a 4-5 hr drive or the orlando show next month!
