Babs

I think my girl is doing better already. I've had the heat going on her and put some extra vitamins in her eggfood. She definitely seems less stressed, even though she still looks rough around the edges.

Another thing I noticed too is that she's chirping again! I hadn't realized it at the time because she's so aloof, but she's been absolutely silent since living with the boys. Now that she's out, I can hear her. I forgot about the little quack-chirp she has!

My naive eye thinks the baby looks nice and healthy. I noticed some kind of dandruff or dust of some form on him though, I'll post that in a separate thread. I was hoping it'd be a white breast like its mother :D, but I'm thinking it's going to be a PB.

And the boys are acting crazy! They're taking care of the fledge, but are also hard at work again rebuilding a nest they lost interest in months ago. I gave them some more orchard grass since they were pulling apart my strategically placed seed-catching paper towels!!

I don't know what to think about the S76. I know exactly what you mean with regard to resistance, I've seen it with my own dogs and the Frontline. Definitely doesn't work like it used to. I just don't know if the pros outweigh the cons and vice versa.

I only treat for air sac mites during quarentine and not again. ASM are not in every bird and they are not as common as you think. I've had gouldians for over 16 years and have NEVER had ASM pop up.

The beak and legs of your gouldian are looking fine to me. So, I don't think she has air sack mites. I think she is molting.
I love Gouldian Finches.

That IS fantastic news! Shes probably like " (Brooklyn accent)OMGAWD, those two are tryin' to redecorate the whole place. Drivin' me crazy. I cant breathe without 'em down my back. "Wipe your talons, ya messing up the nest, it was poyfect before you's stepped in here. Wha's da matter w' you's?"

More Brooklyn accent "For the love of GAWD, just gimme a quiet place to rest, a TERLET to pee in and a place I can hear some occasional chwoyping in da place. Lemme alone now. Zzzz"

ASM are internal so you would see them on the beak or legs, that would be Scaley mites.

Since moving her to her own cage, her head is now bursting with pin feathers.

Hi, depending on whether your Gouldian has air sac mites or a respiratory infection. I have used S76 with all my finches, canaries and cockatiels with great success and it treats mites and worms that you just add to the birds drinking water. I brought it from www.fabfinches.co.uk these also sell antibiotics for respiratory infections they you could also try, hope this helps.

So glad it's possibly just a molt! What a relief.

Update for all those who gave advice: dads and baby are still doing great! This image of the little family is from a couple of weeks ago, the chick seems to be fully weaned now.

My hen is also doing very well since being removed from the boys, her health seems back to normal now. I'm wondering how long I can keep her in a cage alone, before she'll need another hen friend? I've noticed her playing with her bell & mirror a lot, I don't know if that means she's getting lonely.
