Olympic_Aiairies That's great news! I was also wondering how she was doing. I'm so happy she made it through! :)

Olympic_Aiairies -- This is such wonderful news!
I was worried about her but it sounds like she's really doing well!

I'm shocked by how long it's taking for her foot to fall off. I thought it would be a faster process, you know?

Does she still use it for balance? Or has she stopped using it entirely?

I hope she adjusts to her new normal without any trouble!

It sounds like she's mostly out of the woods! On the edge of the forest. :-)
I would keep a close eye on her right after it falls off, as she'll have an open wound. I might consider prophylactic antibiotics at that time.
But it sounds like she's making it!

Hopefully she should do well! I'm thinking about her! I pray she lives a long, wonderful life!

So she lost the leg last night. Hubby noticed it before I did. I'm keeping a close eye on the stump. It actually doesn't look like an open wound. Just a bit red that's all.

Well, she will be able to adjust better now that the foot fell off. My handicap Society's hop on one foot and perch by sitting on their bellies, resting on the perch. I also provide a flat platform perch/shelf for them to use and a nest, to help them be able to rest when tired.

Olympic_Aiairies I wonder if the corner shelf perch would be a good thing for her to have...if you don't already have one. She can rest more on it. http://www.amazon.com/Prevue-Products-B ... oden+perch

I have an open cup nest in the cage for her to rest in. She spends some time in there during the day and almost always sleeps in it at night. She prefers the perches on the seed cups which are flatter. Once she can move into a bigger cage (when my bird room is done) I'm going to get some flatter perches for the rest of her cage.

This is such great news!
I'm so happy to hear it came off without trouble and no obvious pain or anything like that.
Agreed with the others; she should be able to adjust nicely now that it's off. She can feel everything and she'll get a chance to adjust to a new center of gravity now that's it's gone.
So wonderful!
She's making it! Continued well wishes for her!!

Oh, wow, I have been loosely following this thread in the hopes that the outcome would be favorable. I am potentially looking at the same scenario with my owl finch hen's foot. I am so glad all is well!

KarenB she is doing just fine. Only issue is she's ticked at me because she has to stay in the small hospital cage until the bird room is done. LOL. I don't want her in with more than just the male I've gotten for her and all my cages are full.

Bird room hopefully will be done by the end of Aug. Health wise though she's doing great.

That's good to know, well, except for her being mad at you. I'm afraid I've made a complete enemy of myself where Annie is concerned. I feel like she thinks I just want to torture her. Sigh.

Olympic_Aiairies that's great to hear your IHop came through her traumatic experience okay. You went through so much...to lose her too would have been awful!
@KarenB, I was wondering how Annie was doing. I hate when the birds you're/we're trying to help so much, don't "get it" and think we're out to get them. My Little Fawn with the eye infection and I were really bonded, but after I had to put eye drops in 3x per day, she thought I was trying to kill her all the time. Well as long as they are healthy and happy, that's what matters. :D

Olympic_Aiairies -- That's so wonderful that little iHop made it through!
She had so much going against her, with all the recent stress from the brother-in-law's neglect on top of the injury.

So happy to hear she's doing well! It sounds like she "made it!"
