Same here.... my mini Dachshund Trixie would grab it up in two seconds!! And she is a sweetheart dog.....
But I had a big lab that I would have trusted. It just depends on the dog I guess.

Well... we are off topic, but it is my post and I don't care!

Since you already hijacked the post and don't care...

My 3 guys are 2 westies and a dachhund mix, all 3 are hunters for small prey. They do know better than going even close to the aviary door and respect that (when I'm not home they are in the kitchen and can't get to it) but I wouldn't trust them with a free flying bird next to them. Especially the Dachshund Mix ("Copper") always finds dead birds or mice or rats or chipmunks and tries to bury them in the backyard. (I don't think he can catch a bird but the rodents I'm sure are not always dead when he finds them. For his size he's a pretty fast runner...) The other day he ran around with a frozen stiff dead squirrel (which I'm sure was dead when he found it). The ground was frozen too so he didn't know where to bury it...
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

Well, my husband is really good in gently talking him into letting go and dropping nasty things. Sometimes I think he's actually glad when we take the "responsibility of hiding a dead critter" off of him...
He also likes chewing bones and we always have to make sure he doesn't carry them outside. He buries them and later goes and gets them and chews on them again when they are all dirty... YUCK!

Thank you! I am happy about the success of this bird!

And I will give credit to Misty also. She was a great help to me in giving this little baby what it needed.
