Health help!

Post by Ameza » Tue Mar 22, 2011 12:43 pm

Hi guys.

As some of you might know I lost one zebbie about a week ago. I have been very paranoidly watching my birds since.

One thing that seemed to be wrong when I examined my birds body, that there was some poop on her feathers and there seemed to be undigested seeds that seemed very pale colour, rather colourless. Do you know what would cause this?

Also I was wondering if any parasites show their eggs in the birds poop, as in what I though were seeds could have been eggs or something.

Please help me, because I think I noticed similar droppings by another so far healthy bird. So I might be racing against time here, I'm gonna contact a vet tomorrow but sadly here are no one that is an expert in finches so I don't know how much they'll know.

Thank you.

What is the consistency of the droppings? Watery? Thick? Yellow? clear?
My birds had coccidia which caused droppings like pure water, with undigested seed. Is the bird thin? Can you feel the keel bone on the chest?

I do not know of any insect that could lay eggs the size of finch seeds. I would presume those are undigested seed you may be seeing. If the bird is passing the seeds whole - that's not a good sign but I don't know what meds to give to resolve the issue.

I would start by putting a heatlamp on the cage if you haven't as yet. I sure others will be online shortly to help out more.

Good luck and hang in there!

Ok, his droppings look normal to me now, but I'm keeping a close eye on that white paper. But he is still puffy and seems to be shaking a bit :/

Hopefully he'll be better tomorrow.

I would put a heat lamp on him, heat does wonders for minor illnesses, just make sure he can move away from the heat if he wants.
