An update on my Society finch that's been sick.
Today I went to every pet store/bird store/ feed store in my area looking for something to treat air sack mites. I didn't find anything. ( The pacific north west is not the hub of the birding world
) However since it might not be air sack mites but a respiratory infection I decided to purchase Erythromycin for birds and Bounceback (a multi-species electrolyte supplement) for my sick little finch. It took me all day driving around and I didn't get home until later afternoon. He was still huffing and puffing, just looking so sad, even though he's been under a heat lamp with a humidifier running. So I mixed up the electrolite and put it in his water dish then took a syringe and put a drop of the Erythromycin mix in the side of his beak. I think he got some down. When I checked on him a few minutes ago (it's 10:00 pm here) he was flying (!!!) around his hospital cage and eating his millet as fast as he could. He is no longer laboring to breath! So far so good. The treatment is for 5 days. I'm thinking he might have gotten stressed from the move, got run down and just got sick and it isn't air sack mites. I'm crossing my fingers it's not. Thanks to everyone for encouraging me and giving me so much helpful advice. I feel like he has a chance now.
