Missing Toes...

I noticed one of my society finches has 2 missing toes. The front claw and back claw are intact has no problem, flying, perching or jumping. But it does hesitate a bit more than my other finch who is constantly flying back and forth from wall to wall waiting for the bigger habitat lol. Both left and right limbs are present (nubs) but no toe nails and one is very very short. I can tell this isn't a recent event as I took them in from freind. I'm assuming since they are young it probably happened in a petshop as they aren't old and shows signs of coping. Anything I should know or be advised of? Have had birds with missing toes, would like clarification, so i don't overlook anything?

I think he's only hesitant as he is new and still getting used to his surroundings - possibly.
I don't think you need to do or watch for anything special. I'm sure he'll be just fine since he's getting around okay. Most adapt perfectly. The only thing is IF you want to breed him and IF he's a he - then he may not be able to hold with his feet to complete the copulation act.

He will be perfectly fine.

Here a couple of pics I just took of my little Champ. He was raised in a seed cup, in the aviary. When he was hatched he came out of the nest stuck to one of his parents. He was attacked by some of the other birds and lost all but 1 1/2 claws on one foot.

But he holds his own.

No special perches or anything.

You could not have come up with a better name for the little guy. He's a real champ all right! I heard there was a birth defect effecting the feet and toes. Is that right? could that be what happened to ksull's finch?
