sick female

I have a zebra finch who has been sick for a number of weeks now. I keep doing different things but she just doesn't seem to get better. I've given her antibiotics and vitamins and warmed her up good. She sits on a branch and kinda just leans forward and sleeps a great deal. She will do this for a while and then in the same day perk up some. I have not separated her from her mate because he is so good. Doesn't chase and actually tries to get her to move around some. Could she be laying too many eggs and very low on energy although she has not laid an egg for quite some time but she does not look egg bound. Any advice appreciated.

Oh dear...
Do you know how old she is?
I have a society hen who acts similarly. Kept her in the hospital cage for weeks. She's in with a friend now, but spends most of her time in the nest. I"m beginning to wonder if perhaps there is something wrong with her balance or legs. She seems quite content when she's not on a regular perch. Still Very fluffed up, but eating, drinking, chatting.

She is about 4-5 years old. Seems to be getting worse. She is definitely leaning to one side now. Like her leg is injured or her side. She can stand on it but is unstable on it. I set a little nest for her on the ground but she has managed to get up in the nest that is higher up. I' m thinking I might need to put her down but of course really don't want to. She is alert and hopefully she can get around better tomorrow.

Thanks Tracy. I've set everything down low for her so she can get to food and everything. Like your hen she still looks bright and active but just can't seem to get around well. She seems to at least be able to stand on the leg today as long as she can get around to eat and seems moderately happy I'll just keep her like your hen in her cage with her mate. My husband said we should put her down but I talked him out of it. I'd take her to the vet but I really don't know any good bird vets around here. If anyone knows one in Long Beach, Ca area let me know. Usually they just tell me useless things and give me antibiotics.

Sorry to hear about your Zebby hen. If you're not sure about her age, perhaps she is simply getting on as we all do. Sounds like you are making her as comfortable as possible. Perhaps she had a stroke and it's affecting one side...

Looking back at her age I thinkshe is at least 5 years old so you might be right she could just be getting older. And that is when we bought her. So she could be 6. She is looking poorly today I'm sorry to say.

That's sad. I'm sorry. Do you have a heatlamp available to her? That's the only other thing I could suggest and having food/water on the floor of the cage.

My little girl is still having trouble. But she does get up and eat and moves around some. So I'm just keeping her comfy. Thanks for your help.
