So i ordered 2 different products a few days ago and they just arrived, can anyone help with dosage?
Item 1: Ivermectin drops 0.% Pharmaq
Mite treatment spot on anti parasite for cage birds, 10ml
Contents ivermectin 1mg/ml in a propleyne glycol base
Dosage guide:
Bodyweight
60g one drop
125g two drops
etc
Goes up like this but isnt a zebra finch something like 20g?! How can i give this to my zebra finch, any advice, ive not had experience with this product.
Item2:
Beaphar Anti-Parasite Spot On for small birds Birds 20g-50g (contains ivermectin)
Suitable for birds weighing 20-50g. Its effective against roundworms, feather lice, red mites, feather mites, asm, and scaly face for up to 4 after treatment.
I have used this product before it contains 2 pipettes, i used a half dose ( half of each pipette ) and they recovered.
I assumed ivermectin drops would be best but confused about weight of the bird (though it has a pic if a canary on the front which i thought werent much bigger than zf's?)
Any advice asap much appreciated,i couldnt find Scatt on eBay and was in a panic so ordered these.
Ordering Scatt tomorrow (dont have cash in bank until then) after finding it on amazon but would take four days to come so excluding weekends wouldnt come until midweek next week, and some are looking quite bad now, i have used Beaphar before but was i just lucky??
Have been treating them withe neem tea which is why i havent treated before now with ivermectin as it has previously worked but its not this time, and a few are in a bad state.
Any ideas which i should use and dosage? any help greatly appreciated.

First of all, you don't have to be 100% exact when using Ivermectin as long as you get an approximate dosage applied and don't go wild.
I, too, was trying to be exact but my Avian vet just used a syringe and applied an approximate 'drop' of the Ivermectin to each of their heads with no fuss. Since his example I just put a drop on each of their heads without worrying and haven't had a problem.
So, if they are in a bad way go ahead and use a drop of the Ivermectin on each of their heads ... keep them separated for 24 hours so they don't 'preen' it off each other and ingest too much (if you can). If you can't don't worry most likely no problems but I always try to do the safest thing so that's why I'm telling you.

Why would you order/get the Scatt if you have the other two items? I don't think you need three items that do the same thing...?

Not sure why i put about the scatt, thats how my head is at the moment very scatty and fuzzy!
Thanks for the replies. Decided to use the ivermectin 0.1% drops and have successfully caught them all and put it on their skin, had a bit of trouble catching them and keeping them caught ( i have a muscle problem) but we got there in the end and should all have had at least a small amount on their skin.
Can't separate them all unfortunately but theyre far too sleepy to preen each other and have turned the lights out so they have a nice restful sleep for an hour or so.
Iv'e read i should see an improvement in their health after 24 hours or so, is this true?

Not necessarily -- sometimes the finch can get a little worse at first as the mites die off and clog (even more) their air sacs. But, after a few days (at the least) you should see more activity with your finches and less 'itchiness'. Then the worst should be over.
Remember to treat all your birds again in 3 weeks after the mite eggs hatch.
Also, when you clean their cages you can use a cleanser that kills bugs as well as a gentle disinfectant and that will help.
If you've had a bad problem, get rid of all the nesting material in their nests as they finish nesting and replace your wooden perches with new ones if you can.
It is up to you but many of us just put the birds on a regular miticide treatment schedule of 3-4 times a year depending on how bad your problem with mites typically is.
Oh, by the way (just in case you need to file this in your 'mental drawer') a Blue Cap Cordon Bleu weighs about 12-13 grams so most finches will be less than 20 grams...

My hand tame Ziz didnt appreciate being caught, tame anough to sit on my hand but didnt like the dropper so i had to catch him like the others, been in sulk since yesterday, wont sit on my hand .
Hopefully all will be well in a few weeks and then i can strt taming him again.

Just a quick update on them, this wedneday is their final treatment of ivermectin, all seemed to be going ok on friday all recovering. I went on a weekend holiday (and left my mum with the care of my finches,) ive come back and they must be feeling better as i found an egg on the floor and i find the odd one of them when theyre well, however i can hear clicking in afew of them again, which i dont quite understand.
Is this them expelling the dead mites from the lungs?

The clicking sound? You know I don't know exactly what causes it -- I just know it means ASM.
I think if I were you I would give them a break for a couple of weeks and treat again if you are still hearing this sound after your first treatment -- those mites sound like they really infested your birds and some birds sort of just 'carry' them all the time so you want to get your birds as 'clean' of mites as you can and then put them on a regular mite treatment schedule to keep them that way...

Clicking can be a symptom of many illnesses and respiratory infections not only air sac mites. If you treated them for air sac mites and they actually had the mites then the clicking and ill look should have disappeared. It very well may be a respiratory infection.

Just found a link that might help you decide what it could be, though a vet would be best.
Good luck

Wheezing, clicking, sucking, sneezing, coughing, neck stretching,
nostril discharge, open mouth breathing and excessive beak wiping.
All of the above symptoms can also be indications of a Bacterial, Fungal or Protozoa caused respiratory infection. First eliminate the possibility that it is the air-sac mite. Treat your bird with Scatt or S76. If the symptoms do not subside within 48 hours, then your bird has one of three types of respiratory infection. Each type is caused by a different organism and each type of infection will require a different medication
