Should I treat during the molt?

Post by lstyles » Tue Apr 12, 2011 3:09 pm

I have decided to go ahead and treat my gouldians for parasites (ronidazole 12%), worms (worm away) and cocci (TMP-sulfa) prior to breeding them in late summer/early Fall. They have just started to molt. Is it bad to do these treatments while they are molting? They have already been treated for ASM and I am treating them every three weeks with S76 during their molt. I am also postponing their move to the outside because I don't want to stress them too much during their molt.
thanks,
Lori

Why are you treating with S76 every 3 weeks during the molt??
Just wondering

I treat every 3 weeks during the molt because of what I read on Ladygouldian.com:
"S76 will only remain in the blood stream while it is available to the bird in its drinking water, so the recommendation is that during the molting and breeding cycles the treatments should be given for 2 consecutive days every 3 weeks. The rest of the year it should be administered for 2 consecutive days every month."

I think I have read on this forum also that during breeding and molting you should increase the frequency. My birds came to infected with ASM so I am pretty cautious about its return.

I would check to make sure that they didn't mean 2 consecutive days for 3 weeks. I use iverlux which is equivalent to s76 and the dosage on the label is 2 days each week for a total of 3 weeks.
