Gould with Sinus infection
My first blue gould baby is about 6 months old now. She is partly molted a nice BH PB BB
She has developed a large lump...bump...on her head above her right eye. I tried treating her with Amoxitex with no results. She seems fine, eats, fly's but the bump won't go down or resolve. I don't know what else to do. Taking her to a vet is not an option. I have read that this is a problem with recessive mutations and I have her in quarantine. is this a bird that I should not breed even if this gets better? What else can I do?

Here is a link to a topic from a couple months ago. Sounds like it might be a similar issue:

Re: Gould with Sinus infection
That's my hen in the previous thread....The bump is still there, the feathers are sticking out every which way on it, but overall she does not act sick at all....I have been giving her Thrive on her soft food....I still don't know what it is, but it doesn't bother her, so I am just watching her to see if it changes at all...So far there is no change

Re: Gould with Sinus infection
Here are some pics I took today. It is larger now than before. I stopped giving her the amoxi as it didn't seem to be doing anything. The bump is hard but moves a bit so it does not feel like bone. She appears in no distress, eats, chirps. But I am afraid her head may explode!!!
I read the post about your hen G8love4finches, and it seems similar but much MUCH bigger.
I feel bad that she is alone but I don't want her with anyone if contagious. Of note: her green back brother is doing great. It was a nest of just those two.

Re: Gould with Sinus infection
I don't think Amoxitex is really effective/strong enough.
I would probably use Spectovet if you're thinking its a Strep sinus infection:

Re: Gould with Sinus infection
could it be a tumor? Poor girl. if her feathers are falling out doesn't that usually mean fever? Shame you can't lance it if it's an infection. I wish I could help!

Re: Gould with Sinus infection
That is the only place that she is "bald".
She would scratch that area when it first started but now it doesn't even seem to bother her at all. I tried cleaning it but that did nothing. I gave Amoxi/tylosin from what I read on http://www.ladygouldian.com/node/223

that reply is spam. Don't bother with the link.

Re: Gould with Sinus infection
Have you been able to treat this yet? That's exactly what it is, sinus infection.
Treatment: - KD IS FIRST CHOICE followed by Quick Gel for 2 days - then doxycycline of no response

let me know if you need any more help

Re: Gould with Sinus infection
Tetratex is also used for bacteria infections...I would start her on another type of antibiotic and treat for a longer, it might require a longer course time since the infection is massive. She is scratching because of the pressure she feels in her head/sinuses.
