I purchased Darcy, a female Red Factor Canary, three weeks ago as a mate for my male. They got along really well, and still do. Mating occured very quickly, and the female built her nest the first day. The trouble is she spends most of her time in the nest(empty), and seems to be just resting. I seldom see her eat, but I'm assuming that she is getting enough. I noticed an overgrown beak two weeks ago, trimmed it, but it's becoming overgrown again. Is there anything that I can do for her?

Also try adding an extra cuttlebone in the cage, one near a food or water cup and one near a top perch near her, for her beak and extra calcium. My friend has canaries and his seem to like to sit and kind of "get ready to lay eggs". Some of his females seem to practice sitting. Give her a little time, she may be young or just not quiet ready yet.


Carefull trimming the beak, the beak is sensitive and has small nerves running through it.
