Scaly leg mites or age effect on finch feet?

How can one tell if a finch has scaly leg mites or just normal age look to its feet? I noticed on my 4 year old gouldian some roughness to the scales on the toes = some look lifted up on the back toes. Does this sound normal or more like leg mites?

Can you by any chance post a picture?
There are lots of pix on the Internet when you google them. Maybe you can compare. I had scaly mites on my budgies and I was able to see the difference. The vet confirmed when I brought them in for treatment. None of my finches got them though, and they share the same aviary. I think it's not as common in finches, you might really just have "old looking" feet on your gouldians.
