Help with Diamond Dove...shell still attached

I have a baby that was born and the egg shell is stuck to it's rear end. I thought it would come off by now, but it has not. When you try to pull it off, it does not come right off and seems like it causes discomfort for the baby when I try to pull it off. It is also getting feces on it and starting to stink? Has anyone seen this before? What should I do?

Chase...on this topic scroll down to nixty's (Tiffany) input. She describes how to help remove the eggshell from a chick.

Thanks! I am just hoping it is not some kind of deformity or infected. It's stuck on pretty good.

I used tweezers, q-tips and warm water and after some work I got it off. It took some beginning pin feathers with it, but it's off. It's little rump is raw but I think it will be ok.

Is there any thing that you would put on her rump (i.e.- neosporin, peroxide, etc) to prevent infection? Didn't know if you could use those types of things on birds.
Thx!

there are a few suggestions on Ladygouldian.com

check under cuts and also under wounds
Neosporin might be soothing, use a thin coat.
