Black marks on beak

Post by hanauersandra » Thu Sep 15, 2011 5:14 pm

I noticed my society mom has black on the side of her beak, from her face toward the tip of her beak on maybe a third to a quarter of her beak. It wasnt there before. It doesnt look infected or anything, just discolored like. Her two grown babies, I noticed both have black dots on each of their beaks too. they are just dots tho, close to their faces. They are all acting just fine. Any thoughts? Is it a normal occurance? Just looks weird and I am concerned.

May I ask what their diet is and can you take a few close up pictures of their beaks...it might help use determine if it is fungal, diet or another cause.

I had a similar problem. Notice the black line on the finch in the back, compared to the pair in front. This was particularly puzzling since they have the same diet.

The problem was solved by supplying more grit to their diet. Everything was back to normal in 2 days.
