This will help pass the egg.

I would remove her mate from the hospital cage, as he can agitate her. You can take the hospital cage into the bathroom, run the hot water in the shower to give some humidity. You could also get a hot water soaked towel (water squeezed out) and wrap it around the cage to give some additional humidity that way. If you have liquid calcium, a drop on the beak helps as well. The lamp is a wonderful source of heat - good decision. Good luck!!!

When should I add the mate after she passes the egg???

Maybe give her a few days to a week to recover.
He may want to breed again.
My cut throats were together when she passed hers,but he didn't bother the hen.

If you remove her mate and they start calling to each other and she is flying to the sides of the cage, put her mate back with her. You don't want her landing hard on the sides of the cage since the egg can easily break inside her. Personally I have never removed the mate from the cage but left them in their own cage and added a large heat lamp to the side of their cage or flight. I did not want to stress the female out to much by moving her.

You can add a little wheat germ oil to her seed also.

That is a good sign that she isn't in distress.
She should pass it normally, fingers crossed.

I hope she's okay in the morning! Poor little thing. Good luck with her. I read that a drop of liquid calcium will help the egg pass sometimes in just a few hours. Eating and drinking is a very good sign.. Sending good egg laying thoughts your way!

What your doing sounds good to me, heat is the necessary factor to helping egg bound hens anything extra is just great. Now you know what has happened and you should start to add extra calcium to her diet this will help with replenishing her depleted stock of it and definitely needs a boost before she goes down again. With my egg bound hens I also use olive oil around the vent as this helps to lubricate the vent but I also like to add cod liver and wheat germ oil to the food while they are egg bound as this also helps to lubricate her inside tract definitely not a fan of sticking anything up the vent while she's eggbound. When cooler weather is still hanging around and my hens are egg laying I use cod liver oil mixed with seed and a mineral water soluble powder to help prevent egg binding and this does in alot of cases. Best of luck and with the help your giving her I do believe she will pull through just fine.

Forgot to mention this but if you get the wheat germ oil make sure you put the bottle in the fridge, it will spoil if left out.

Just a thought.. could it possibly be anything else? How are her droppings? Are there any? How is her food/water intake today.

Honestly, I have so much to learn yet, but how long can a hen remain egg-bound? Is it only a day or so?

has she been able to pass a dropping? is she standing and straining?

Did you add any oil to her seed?

Hi - just a few things to add:
- it is possible that if you don't have a grate in the cage, the GS may eat the egg (including shell).

When my GS was egg bound, she was fluffed-up and sitting at the bottom of her cage, I had no problem grabbing and picking her up. It was only after the vet gave her pain meds that she started moving around more. As soon as the egg pasted, she was perfect, like nothing had happened.

I would take her to the vet tomorrow - but if I had to do it again, I would question the pain meds more. With the meds, my GS started moving around a lot more and I was very concerned that she would hurt herself by trying to fly, etc.
