AHH! Trauma!!

I"m scared even to mention this since I feel so incredibly awful this could have happened at all!!

My birds are all in their own enclosures in a room all their own.

Last night I went in to freshen the water before bed, but I was tired and clearly wasn't careful/aware. But apparently one of my societies zipped past me and must have spent the night outside of the cage. That's bad enough, but my daughter went in to grab something from the room, left the door open. (it is ALWAYS closed!)
About 10 minutes ago I saw the cat playing oddly gently with a "toy". God.. it was my bird!
There's no bite marks, only a few feathers messed. But of course it's shocky. I gave it some vitality water, plenty of seed and millet spray in the hospital cage, warmth... and a friend from her own cage. Right now it's huddled in the corner, eyes open and aware, but not moving. Crossing my fingers.... [-o<
I can't begin to tell you how HORRIBLE I feel!!!

ahh! :o I would've stood there in shock. I think he'll be fine. [-o< I would just leave him in there and wait it out. And if his friend is too active, I would leave him alone so he can rest. If not, hopefully she'll preen and help him.

So sorry for you and your little guy that you had to go through this. I bet with heat and some TLC from you and his friend he will be back to normal in no time! Keep us posted.

I am so sorry for you!! I can imagine how bad you must feel. But that could have happened to any of us. But I'm so glad that you could catch the cat on time for the bird to be pretty much unharmed! =D> (If one of my birds ever got out and one of my dogs was near, I'm sure the bird wouldn't be so lucky...)

I'm hoping your little guy will be OK....I can feel for you, with my cat and dogs, I am just lucky that none of my escapees haven't spent time close enough to be a quick snack for one of them....It is very worrisome!! Fingers crossed everything will be OK

Awweee how awful for you! AND for the little guy :(
Thank goodness you caught the cat while he was still in
"play" mode! Here's hoping he's back to his normal
self in no time :)

Thank you...
I still feel so horrid this happened, butI looked in on the hospital cage - and they're on top of the little platform I have in it.
I honestly did NOT expect to see them both up there. If he's well enough to get up there on his own, I'm feeling more hopeful.
Crossing fingers still... but what a wonderful sight!!

I hope he recovers completely Tracy [-o< I have unfortunately had this happen as well, mine was not quite as lucky injury wise, but pulled through. He was probably in shock, and thus not moving [-o<

Don't berate yourself - accidents happen to all of us. As long as he can be given peace and quiet for a couple of days hopefully he will get over the shock. Best wishes!

Well, they're both active :)
But I'm worried about the poor bird's legs. One leg is not supporting weight well, and the other is not much better.
Just going to give lots of food and love, and hope for the best.

That is great to hear the activity level is good so far. I hope the leg weakness will improve.

Oh....and when are you getting the Dark-Eyed White Society? :D

It happens to all of us...I gave my birds a treat then my husband I left. My daughter was home from wor but in her room, our two cavlaiers were out in the main room sleeping. What I did not realize is a mineral bloc slid down and blocked the door from closing on one of my owl flight.

I came home and were in the house about 5 minutes and noticed two of the 11 owls were out, one sitting on the floor near the leg of the cage stand and the other on the top edge of our flat screen tv. Hubby was not happy about that. We caught the one that was on the floor, the one on the TV took off but first pooped right across the sacred TV screen. We finally caught him. The dogs slept through it all, thank goodness.

After returning the owls to their flight, doing a head count I quickly removed the mineral block from near the door.We were gone for an hour and a half...both dogs love to chase things...so suprised they did not see the owls flying about.

Hope your little one recovers...door left open, birds getting out, it happens to all of us!!!
