Any body knows what is wrong with my gouldian finch? he was healthy boy couple days ago, and then suddenly he stopped flying and started to sleep a lot. He eats just fine, he has finch seeds that I get for him from petsmart. The female finch that is with him looks fine and healthy. His mother died from similar sickness, I did not owed the mother bird, some lady gave me those birds. Any way I will show the pic. and please help me to figure out what wrong with him

I guess nobody can tell anything from the picture... I'm sorry but I can't help either, and I'm not quite sure what you are showing. Is he missing some feathers? Is he otherwise fine and only missing feathers on the wing? Maybe you can post a few more pix of the bird?

I'm not certain what you're trying to show with your picture, but What are his droppings like? Normal, watery, undigested seed? Is he going light/losing weight? How is his breathing?
Do you have him in a hospital cage with a light/heat source? Any meds yet? Vitamins/ minerals?

One of the first things to do is to put a heat source for the bird to go to. The heat will let the bird concentrate its energy on fighting the illness rather than staying warm.

A 40 watt incandecent lamp would do.
Position the lamp so the bird can go close to it or back off from it, to get the amount of heat it needs.
And run the lamp 24 hours a day. So the bird can also get warmth at night.

well I was just wondering if the wing should look like that, because its shows all the muscles. Also his dropping were somewhat liquid, until he got some antibiotics, it helped him some. His droppings are fine, but he totally can't fly, his breathing is fine, it does not looks like that his is straggling to breath or any other problem with it, he does not loosing his feathers and he looks fine except puffed up and sleepy. I checked his body and his skin on stomach looks really dark like blueish dark. I don't know if he should look like that.

So no reply. Any way the bird is more sicker, and I can't figure out what is wrong with him. I try to put some ointment on the inside of his wings and looks like it was painful for him. He just sits under heat lamp and sleeps. I am really upset, and would like to find answers but there is nothing much out there, so if anybody has any advise I will greatly appreciate it.

Honestly, I cannot help you, The wing looks fine, and blueish purple skin is also fine. It may be an internal parasite. Put him in a hospital cage with a heat source and easy to reach food, water, and vitamins. Good luck.

Is the bird eating? Is he eating more than normal? Is his vent wet? Has the bird ever been treated for internal parasites with Ronex 12% or Ronivet S12%. Treating with an antibiotic may not be all he needs.

When handling the bird do you hear clicking or a puffing sound like the bird is having difficulty breathing?

When handling the bird can you feel it's breast bone, is it sharp. When looking at it does his chest look like a inverted "V" or is it rounded?

Any discharge from the nostrils?

I am just pondering, you say he was doing better on the antibiotics, did you give him the complete treatment or just stop when you noticed he was doing a bit better?

i also agree i cannot see anything wrong in the picture you have shown,so its possible he or she has an internal infection and needs to take the full treatment of antibiotics if they are given,i am not saying you havent completed the required dosage but when given any medicine for your birds they need to take the full amount despite early signs of improvement

I did checked for possible mites, no, the treatment with antibiotics was succesfull for a little bit, and no i did not stop the treatment, well the bird died today, at the end he stopped eating and drinking, he had good exes to both food and water and was in hospital cage. So far the rest of the birds look good, but I do worry about this case, I do not want the rest of the birds to get sick.

I am not experienced in preventative medications, I hope somebody else will chime in and suggest what - if anything - you should do to make sure the others don't get sick.

Have you ever done any preventitive care such as deworming and parasite preventitive with Ronex 12% or Ronivet S 12%?

Was the birds chest area shaped like a sharp inverted "V"? no meat around the chest area? Was the bird making a huffing noise, not clicking but lie it was out of breath?
