DEAD SOCIETY "HELP"...

Post by sandrofigueroa » Tue Nov 08, 2011 2:32 am

--So I just got home from work, I went to check my outdoor aviary , and I found one of my male society dead on the floor... I panic for a moment thinking that there was something inside the aviary , but nothing.
The rest of my flock was sleeping like nothing had happen. It is so weird because there were like 3 drops of blood right next to the dead society... The only thing that I can think of is "aggression" from my male yellow bishop weaver or from the rest of my zebras, but its still weird because they have been together for at least 2 weeks now. The society feather were intact wish makes me thing that aggression was not the case, but at the same time I did not check his eyes because it was kind of dark. I found the thermometer I used to read temperature at night in the floor which makes me thing that there was alot of movement in the top part of the aviary.

Have this happen to any of you guys before?

2morrow Im going to take a couple hours just to watch them closely for "aggression"

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. :( Aggression could be the culprit or night frght. Is there ant light for them at night? Do you have enough nests for all? A Society would normally be sleeping in a nest at night. Not sure what else could be the problem. I hope there are not any more losses.

Bishops are classified aggressive, zebras pushy, societies passive. I would watch this mix very carefully.

The society could have been chased by either the bishop or a zebra (I am putting my bet on the bishop)...during the chase he may have collided with perch or the side of the cage. He may have hit beak first the blood might have come from the inside of the mouth. I have seen birds fly into things and have a tiny bit of blood from the beak area...yours may have hit hard.

Sorry for your loss, maybe he got spooked, and flew into something not paying attention. Or maybe it was dark and he couldn't see.
