Hi there,
I just came back from homedepot and I bought a plug in fluorecent light strip and put it right on top of the cage so they would have more light, it came with a semi-transparent plastic around the bulb but it still feels a little bright. I'm worried it could damage their eyes should I try putting something else on top to block some light like a light fabric?

I have fluorescent tube lights on all my cages, many of them sitting right on the top of the cage, and no, it will not hurt their eyes.

thanks sally, i checked it out again now and its not as bright as i initially though. im loving it and wondering why i didnt do it a long time ago

I also have fluorescents in my birderoom with no issues or concerns.

its actually really nice, my gouldians are glowing in there and i can actually appreciate them in all their colorful splendor

I hope you got the "daylight" tubes.
The color is much nicer with daylight than cool or warm white.

I think I have warm white but I'm going to change it to daylight. It helps with vitamin absorption aswell. My aquarium has the same size bulbs but daylight so I'll switch one bulb.

Im going to need some sort of light to go on top of my aviary. I had to move it because Its in the spot where we usually put the Christmas tree...and now where they are is by the window, but its still pretty dark in that corner. I dont have any flouresents, does anyone know if I can use a desk lamp or something for now?

Yes, absolutely! I use small lights in all my clamp lights on individual breeding cages.

yes you absolutely can. i dont know how far you live from home depot, lowes or other hardware stores but you can buy a flourecent light strip with bulb in it for less then $20, i seen some for $11 and $14. mine was only $20 on sale from $35 i think. they come with everything all you do is plug them in your wall socket and turn them on. IMO its easier that way but by all means a desk lamp as long as its not producing too much heat is perfectly fine.

WalMart has the under the counter for under $10 !!!!!!!

I have the long flourescent light that covers my two zebra breeder cage, and I have like 2 more extra if needed. They don't hurt the bird's eyes. And yeah I'd check out walmart.

They have very good deals on seed! a little pricey on the millet spray, but when I get my parakeets for Christmas, I'll sure be buying my pineapple mineral blocks from there!
