best way to stop bleeding

I just banded my five new babies and as I was banding the first one I noticed blood on my fingers. It wasn't from the banding tool. I split band and after banding, I turn the band to make sure it does turn easily. Maybe a sharp edge to the band where it was split? Or maybe he/she got hurt in flight, but whatever the case I put flour over the bleeding area which was on the underside of the body near the leg. Is there a better way to stop the bleeding?

My vet used styptic powder on feet.

Ask your local pharmacist for a styptic pencil...I keep one for emergencies...only cost pennies.Cornstarch will stop it too.

Thanks everyone, I'm glad to have this info for future reference. Baby seems fine, I don't see any blood on perches or anywhere else in the cage.
