My 31 day old Green Singer, lately, has been sitting all fluffed up, with one eye closed sometimes, and once in a blue moon i hear... coughing?

and tonight, for a moment i saw him chirping (sounded like he was trying to sing...) while he was fluffed with eyes closed, and looked like he was breathing hard... :(
He's nipping at everything; the bowls, the branches, the leaves, even his mom's tail!...

I'm new with baby finches, and sick finches in general, so I'm not entirely sure what the best method is for treating the little guy.

I have a heat lamp over his favorite perch, and he's always up there.

A similiar thing (not really) happened to my GS just last week. He was breathing through his mouth and coughing/choking at times. But in the end, it turned out he just got a seed hull stuck in his throat or something and the problem just resolved itself within a few hours.

Not sure about the fluffed up, eye closed and nipping part, as it seems a lot more serious then what happened with my finch. I don't know what to do either...Maybe someone more experienced will show up.

Hope this doesn't put you down, but when I had my baby green singers, I found that they tend to get sick easiest around the 2nd week they leave the nest...Some of my handfeds just suddenly died on me around day 27. I still don't know what went wrong D:

oh man :(

well he's doing okay right now. I havent heard any coughing in the last few hours...

mom's still feeding him about every 20 minutes. and whenever i come near the cage he looks perfectly normal.
but when he fluffs up with his eye closed, i notice that he's bringing his leg up, so i'm thinking maybe hes just tired/sleepy?
