Hi!
I am thinking about ordering some stuff from ladygouldianfinch.com for the new birds i will be keeping in a quarantine. The problem is that im really confused about what i should order. I have two society finches and i will get two more - so i was wondering if you could recomend me some medications for them ? Which are the best to give to society finches in quarantine ?
Air sack mites for example, dont seem to be common among society finches, so i guess there is no point treating for that ?
Halp

Im lost!

I treat ALL the birds the same.
While it may not affect the societies, the societies could be carriers. So I want to knock it down during quarantine, rather than have the birds carry in a bug.
Here is what I give during quarantine
- mite/lice spray
- SCATT or S76
- Wormaway
- Baycox
- Ronivet-S

The Ronivet S or Ronex (ladygouldian.com calls it Ronex Extra Strength) must be 12%...6% is not adequate for finches. If you get the 6% you can double the powder to 1 times the water.
You can use cocci-care or baycox, baycox is more effective but according to a few members it smells like rotten lettuce

Thank you for your tips, I have checked those meds out but i would like to narrow the amount of medications down a bit since shipping to sweden is quite expensive! Im a 19 year old student so my economy is not the best at the moment
What about Iverlux, does it do any good ? I know that the vets use it here in sweden for different kinds of diseases in birds.
Is there any kind of multi purpose medication to use ?

I prefer Iverlux to SCATT, as the scatt can irritate the birds skin. I think you need the Ronivet 12% no matter what, because that is a life saver if they get sick. I have Ronivet 12%, Iverlux, Cocci-Care, Worm Away, and end with a Probiotic to get their gut back to normal. After all that, I just give them filtered water until the other birds get their yearly preventatives. If you just have a few finches, you can buy the small bottles (4 oz.) so the shipping would be less expensive.

I like the ronex 12% since it is made by Morning Bird and can be mixed with amoxitex if need be.

also - another important question! I have ordered probiotics - should i give the birds probiotics for a few days before starting a new medication, or should i give them the probiotics after treating them with all medications ?

I give it in between medications or treatments...2 to 3 days after each one.

Not as a quarantine med, but a general med when there is a problem, especially if it is difficult to diagnose.
It is something called 4-in-one.
Probably for 4 different meds in one. I think it contains Ronivet but at a milder dosage.
I know what you mean about the cost of meds.
Many of the finch meds were surprisingly expensive. I tried to go minimal to keep the cost down, but I ended up with a small stash of meds, and I have 2 or 3 more that I think I will be getting. $$$ OUCH.
This is when having a few nearby finch friends helps, where you can split an order to save money.

All probiotics does is replaces the natural gut flora that can sometimes be decreased by certain medications such as antibiotics. I also use it after treating with ronex, deworming..etc. It is like you eating yogurt with probiotics after medications.

You can use 4 in 1 Powder to treat paratyhpoid, canker, coccidiosis, and E.coli all at one time saving having to treat one thing at a time.
Advise: Do not combine with any other antibiotics. Multivitamins should be given to your birds after being treated with 4 In 1 Powder.
Composition:
Furaltadone 20%
Ronidazole 7%
Excipients to 100g.
Note the ronidazole aka Ronivet is only 7% not 12%

Thank you for your help, you gave me the confidence to finally place and order at ladygouldianfinch.com

i think paying with credit cards online is kind of scary, but my biggest concern is that my order will be stuck in customs since i live in Sweden, but lets hope everything goes well!
I ended up purchasing ronivet-s 12%, S76 and probiotics! I would have liked to get the dewormer too, but just those three items ended up being quite expensive with the shipping cost

I hope ronivet-s and S76 will be enough
