Injured toes/leg?

I am wondering is anyone has helped a recently fledged finch to learn to grasp the branch if they have one leg with the toes apparently too weak to grasp the branch. One of my Society fledges can perch, but the right leg does not grasp and often is flat and turned to the right or left of the leg. The finch can move the toes and leg, but does not seem to be able to grasp with that foot. Is there a way to rehab the toes to be stronger? The finch can move them, but not grasp with them.

I don't know that trying to fix the problem would do anything more than stress the little guy....I don't think that he knows he's different, and will just adapt and learn how to do thinks "his way".... That is just my opinion....He's still adorable!

I figured the fledgling can adapt to the injured foot, but since it seems to be able to move the toes, but is not grasping the branch, I thought it might just need a way to strengthen the foot/toes. Just not sure how to get that accomplished.

I think he'll get stronger with time....I may take a while, but I really think he'll figure it out!....These little birds never cease to amaze me!

Deborah, it might be that during the time in the nest the parents sat in a certain way that caused the toe to curl, I had this happen to a new pair of BC and to one of their young, the leg was actually turned inward. Not much I could do put supply the bird with two perches side by side to form a wider area for it to perch and roost.

The toe may need to get better blood circulation and muscle tone...ary the size perches but avoid very thin perches. Try two next to each other, a single one and a pedi perch, even a platform.

Thanks for the ideas. I have a platform perch I can try and I already put two perches together, side by side. One is a pedi perch and the other a branch style that is about 3/4" wide. If there is any improvement, I'll let you know.
