Successfully had one baby cutthroat....this morning she was on the bottom of the cage, took her out and put her in the hospital cage with heating blanket and quiet.....came home and she had passed away. So sad..... :(

i'm so sorry to hear about your baby :( i know what its like to lose baby birds. its really sad.

don't get discouraged. after going through losing 4 babies (2 that i handled for a week) i was really upset. i am glad that i didn't give up though as another pair of mine just raised one baby who is now fully weaned and amazing.

keep up hope! it will get better :)

So sorry to hear about your baby!....Don't be too hard on yourself you gave the little one it's best chance.....Lossing babies never gets easier, but with the successes of watching a family grow, you will get a very warm spot in your heart!....hang in there

Hang in there.
Unfortunately it comes with breeding birds. I have lost several, and each time it was sad, some more so than others.
The joy of the birds outweigh the sadness when you loose one.

I'm sorry about your baby. It's true, that part never gets easier. But the successes shine so bright, it gets better...

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I am especially sad as I know how difficult it can be to successfully raise cutthroat babies. Granted, this was my first one, so it really was a fluke of sorts, but I was quite attached to this little one.

Question....I read through some other posts that the parents sometimes stop feeding the babies....could this little one just have died of starvation? I am pretty sure it was a female as there was no red band on the chin, is it possible she was eggbound already? Could she have mated this young???
