Zebra Finch has lost his voice!?

Post by Stephanie » Tue Dec 06, 2011 10:58 pm

One of my Zebra males seems to have lost his voice. He's sitting on a perch looking a bit miserable but clearly 'singing', with no sound coming out at all!

I think he may have a cold as we've had the coldest start to Summer in 40+ years here, with mid-Winter temperatures and off-and-on rain for 10 days. :?

Has anyone ever seen this happen to a finch before?

He may have something lodged in his throat. How's he doing?

He is probably sick and needs some help. Do you have him in a hospital cage with heat? I read somewhere on the forum this year about a similar situation. I'll try to search for the post to recall what treatment they gave the finch. I want to say ASM treatment with Iverlux or S76, but I"ll need to double check. I hope he gets better and is singing soon.

The other link mentioned several options and none worked with that particular case, but other people felt that diagnosing the droppings and listening to breathing for any trouble or clicking help determine if you need to treat for ASM or something else.
Keep us posted.
