Today is day 2 of their ASM treatment with s76. The only bird in my flock showing sick signs is my white breast hen. This morning as I was turning on their lights I could hear how raspy/liquidy ( heard clicking too ) her breathing is. I was able to get 1 drop of s76 on her neck but I also feel she may have a upper respitory infection going on as well. What is the best course of treatment now ? I am ready to order from ladygouldian.com.

She is eating and drinking
I have a 75w bulb for heat

Thanks so much
Cath

She may need amoxitex or a broad spectrum antibiotic. If she had air sac mites she may have developed a secondary infection in her lungs.

Definitely sounds like airsac mite complications, especially the clicking. This can take some time to clear. I have visited aviaries where the birds, particularly gouldians, are coughing and weezing. The ASM, obviously, causes damage to the airways which takes some time to repair. The usual treatment is S76 and Baytril if needed. Broad spectrum antbiotics will clear up the infection, if one is present. It is not my experience generally for birds with ASM to go onto inevitably develop chest infections, but you could offer a antibiotic in any event.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. I do have on hand Ornacyn Plus that I got from petsmart the other day. It has 29mg erythromycin, dextrose, citric acid, vit b1 1mg, vit b2 1mg, vitb6 1mg, vit b12 0.010mg, niacin 0.05mg lysine methionine. Should I try this one first ?

It says its a broad spectrum antibiotice for treatment of respiatory infections and also corrects diarrhea and vitamin deficiencies.

Clamp a dome reflector light or a deskl lamp with a 40 watt bulb close to one of the perches. It is of most importance to keep her warm. If you place it to one side, she can get close for lots of heat or move away for less. Sometimes when they have a heavy infestation treating can kill so many mites that their airways become blocked. Sometimes the dead mites will cause infection.
Hope she sheds those bugs and recovers soon. Heat lamps go a long way whenever you are treating birds for anything!
