She was eggbound about four days ago, but after a heat lamp, calcium supplements, egg food and shells, she was able to pass the egg. It was the fourth egg in her clutch. After she passed the egg, she seemed to be doing very well. She was responding to the male's calls and had the general demeanor of a healthy owl finch.
But a day later, she seemed eggbound again, I suppose with her fifth egg. She still hasn't been able to pass it, despite the hospital treatment and oil on her vent. Starting to consider the possibility that she might not actually be eggbound, that it could be something else. She has lost a lot of feathers, perhaps out of stress. She looks puffy, like perhaps there is an egg, but if she's sick, her puffiness could be for several reasons. Does anybody have an idea of what it could be, if not eggbound?
It's been a few days now. I don't know how long hens can be eggbound, but it seems like she is running out of time, if that's what it is.
