NV Powder and S76 Question

Post by Cath1068 » Sun Feb 26, 2012 11:41 am

I emailed Larainne but i havent heard back yet so I will ask here as well. As you all know I am fighting to get my gouldians healthy and I am convinced with reading thru old posts and watching my own birds that they have either a heavy ASM problem or a secondary infesction from the ASM. Their poops look normal they have no outward signs of anything else except resperatory issues. This morning I again heard my wb hen clicking as she took in breaths. My question is is can I use NV powder with either s76 or amoxitex/tetratex at the same time ? They seem to perk up a bit with the nv powder which is why I ask.

Many thx

My interaction chart does not list NV powder, but says do not mix Amoxitex with Sparkle, which I think is similar to NV pwdr. If you are concerned about ASM, I'd treat with the S76 and Amoxitex/Ronex12% together for 7-10 days. Especially, if they're struggling. I"m not sure what the NV powder is doing, except keeping the water clean. I hope they do alright.

I think NV powder is similar to Vitalize.
I think NV powder is a sugar based solution, not a disinfectant type solution.
I would think they would perk up a bit, like you drinking a soda pop and getting a dose of suggar.

I think S76=Iverlex

According to the MB interaction chart, if NV=Vitalize, it should be OK with all 3 (S76, amoxitex and tetratex).
HOWEVER, there are interactions between these 3 drugs.

From Dr Marshalls site:
Give NV powder in the water.
Vitamin and mineral levels also drop with illness and supplementation of the diet is needed for recovery to take place. NV Powder is rich in the immediate energy source of glucose and also vitamins and minerals. Give NV Powder in the water for three days to the ill and recovering pet birds.

For anyone that may be interested or need help with ASM and respitory issues. I had a long talk with Larainne last night and she told me that I could use NV powder at the same time as amoxitex. Also she said this for heavy asm issues that you can safely use S76 at the same time as amoxitex but this is how you MUST do it.

Instead of dosing the S76 in drinking water put one drop of S76 on the skin of the bird for 5 days at the same time you use amoxitex in the drinking water for 5 days. However you CANNOT mix S76 and Amoxitex in the drinking water at the same time.

I called her cuz I found that my WB hen has swollen sinuses. This treatment protocal is for her only ( my other birds are doing better). I think with them they had ASM still but not as bad as her. Also they seem to be going thru a molt as well so I expect them to be kinda lazy.
