Java Sparrow is losing head feathers.

Post by Sparklish » Thu Mar 29, 2012 8:24 pm

Hello! If this topic has been posted before, I apologize in advance and I would appreciate it if you could direct me to the topic. c:

My Java Sparrow has been losing some feathers by her beak, eyes and under the chin for the past few weeks. I thought she was molting at first, but they haven't been growing back. She looks more or less healthy to me; she is very active and eats plenty. Oh, and she squabbles frequently and fights a little with her brother and sister, but they haven't lost any feathers.

I'm stumped. Has anybody had their bird experience this before? Is it serious? How would I treat it or encourage her feathers to grow back?

Here is a photo of the feather loss.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Could her siblings be plucking her face?? Or could it he mites?

Thanks for the reply! I lost hope in this topic when nobody replied to it after a week. D:

I doubt that her siblings pluck her feathers, since they rarely get into a fight. They make threatening sounds to each other a lot though.

I thought it was mites at first, but her feather loss isn't transferring to her siblings, and she doesn't have any of that scaliness on her beak.
