Hi,
My male zebra finch been showing signs of weakness for like five days now, lost weight, sleeping a lot and it's voice have changed almost like when we get laryngitis. Stopped singing but only calls when I approach the cage and this is when I noticed the hoarse voice.
Still eating and drinking normally but I have a feeling it will get worse because the bird keeps Puffed up when I approach and looking weightless on the perch.
I started a course of tetracycline which is a broad spectrum antibiotic hoping to overcome any bacterial infection.

Any suggestions and comments are greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

How long has he been on the tetracyline?

Have you noticed anything unusual with the droppings? A lot of people use "poopology" for diagnosis.

One of my Gouldian males lost his voice as well a few days ago, around the same time his cage-mate died from what I diagnosed as Air Sack Mites (although I'm not vet AND I'm new to finches!)
I am assuming (again, I'm no vet :? ) that my male's loss of voice could be ASM related too (that's one of the symptoms..)

So I wonder if maybe that could be a possibility for your little guy..?

I started mine on a treatment of Iverlux yesterday, but other forum members have also used Scatt and S76 to treat.

Good luck!
