Gouldian sleeping in the day: automatically sick?

Hi everyone,

I just want to clarify a Gouldian behavior, so I don't read into it and panic every time I see it.

Is a Gouldian sleeping during the day an automatic indication there is a
problem with their health? Everywhere I read about Gouldians sleeping in the day, they're sick.

Has anyone seen their adults or fledgelings "napping" during the day, and they are in good health otherwise?

In the 10 months I've had Gouldians, I only ever saw one sleep during the day, and she was visibly sick and passed away.

Recently I've seen two of the fledgelings "napping" for short periods, here and there, head in their wing. Is this normal?
They seem fine otherwise..

Thanks for your input

Some of mine will do this when they are young and/or molting. I am not a Gouldian expert though.

I would just monitor, eating drinking and droppings.

Fledglings and adults will sleep a lot when they are molting. The molting process is very stressful on the body and sleeping seems to help "tide them over" the process. Some nice sunlight (or artificial light) helps by providing warmth as well.

I think most of my finches take 'cat naps' during the day now and then. I know I do too!

A nap here and there is perfectly normal.

yes...nappng is normal.....excessive sleepng would be when I would worry. My birds all have times where they nap and relax for a bit.

Oh thanks!!
I thought it was ok too, for them to nap.

I also don't think the little guys are sleeping comfy at night. They've been kicked out for good from the nest - mom is sitting on hopefully fertile eggs and I think they were bugging her when they'd sleep in there.

Ok, I need to stop reading about finches for a bit! Before I start diagnosing them with non-existent ailments!

Thanks again for your input!
