Bloodied Wing, Swollen Foot! ):
Okay, one of my hens had a bloodied wing a few days ago. I assume from a night fright, she had a a broken wing feather. I bathed her, cleaned her up, she has a little blood staining but was fine. Today I get home, and she has a swollen foot. Looks filled with something. It is fat. She cannot perch on it, and it has two small wounds under the foot. I do not know how this has happened. I washed it with warm water, peroxide and some neosporin. She is sitting in her nest, with a bad wing and bad foot, I am worried. Their is no fibers around it (trust me, I checked) I am just lost.. I need her to do well. It is out of no where!

Dante, put a heat lamp low for her, if she can't perch and is on the floor put low sided dishes like lids with water and food down for her.
The foot if not cut or broken is most likely has a soft tisue injury and the swelling is inflammation. If it is a soft tissue injury it will take time for it to heal and the swelling to go down. Can she move her toes, bend at the joint?

Thank you Cindy.. heatlamp right away and I have these low wooden dishes I can use for her. She does not seem able to move them... is that bad?

Check your perches and the cage floor.
My zebras will cut the pad on their foot on the hard dried poop on the perches or the cage floor. Then either wash or sandpaper the perch to remove the dried poop. If the cage floor is wire grate, clean the cage floor with a damp sponge.

Clean both the perches off with white vinegar it will disinfection the areas especially since she cut her feet. If you sand the perch make sure you wipe the dust off the perch to make sure she does not get the dust in her cuts.
