This is one of my male Gouldians....He has been in a hospital cage all week being treated with Tetratex....Prior to that I treated him with Amoxitex....This morning I finished his treatment with the Tetratex and gave him plain water....He is looking worst, and poop was stuck on his vent....I washed it off and found this!!....When I first isolated him, his bottom looked a little swollen and sore...I presumed it was from a infection causing diaria and the sore bottom....This looks awful!...Anyone know what might be going on?....He looks like he is filling full of fluid....

Oh poor little guy!! I hope he comes back around for you, I will leave the advice to the experts! looks sore! the only thing I could i could even think to start with is maybe rinsing the area with chlorahexidine. But I would wait and see what someone hopefully has to offer! good luck with him!

That looks really bad and must be quite painful. I think I would call a vet for this one.

Omg that poor little guy :( Thats the biggest tumour/cyst I have seen on a tiny little finch.
Do you happen to have a vet to take him to?
Hopefully someone on here can offer some help asap.

Wow, sorry for the poor fellow and for you. So frustrating to have a bird with a problem we don't know how to fix.
I can't offer much advice. I do agree with you it looks to be a cyst or tumor and not so much like and infection.
Maybe an avian vet could shed some light on what and what caused this. Prayers sent [-o<

Here is an article on tumors of birds.

I'm sorry I can't offer any advice either. Best wishes for you and him. Will you take him to a vet?

Poor guy.
I have no experience with this.
If it's a cyst...I imagine a vet may be able to safely drain it?
Hope he heals.

Best of luck

I held him for quite a while knowing he didn't have long....I placed him back under the headlamp....Came back after supper and he was gone... :( ..He died in the strangest position....Outstretched wings(propping up his body) his back is arched backward and his head is pointing to the sky....I want to think he looks like an angel ready to take flight....RIP little one :( :( I find his position fascinating....I did take a picture, but I feel it would be a little morbid to post it

Sorry to hear of your loss :(

At least he won't be in any pain. Odd, his positioning when you found him.

RIP pretty boy. Sorry for your loss.

I have seen this position..it was in an egg bound hen though. The wings out many times is a posture that they assume in trying to push the egg out. The head was most likely up towards the light..and when he passed the head actually fell towards his rear as oposed to the front. Maybe the tumor was blocking his ability to poop and he was straining much like an eggbound hen would. That would be my guess.

Very strange indeed with the tumor.
